Lumatone is a Toronto-based maker of a specialty isomorphic MIDI controller built around a honeycomb layout of 280 illuminated, velocity-sensitive hexagonal keys. The instrument traces its concept back to Dutch designer Siemen Terpstra's 1996 Terpstra Keyboard, and was brought to production by industrial designer Dylan Horvath through an Indiegogo campaign, with the commercial Lumatone launching in 2019 and making its NAMM debut in 2020.

Each key supports polyphonic aftertouch and the company's Lumatouch expression mode, and the per-key RGB lighting can be mapped to visualize scales, chords, and tunings. Because the layout is isomorphic, a given chord or scale shape fingers the same way in every key, which has made the Lumatone a draw for microtonal and xenharmonic composers as well as keyboardists exploring alternative tuning systems beyond 12-tone equal temperament. The hardware is a fully programmable MIDI controller with pitch and mod wheels, and an editor application lets players remap keys, colors, and controller assignments.
