Macmull Custom Guitars is a boutique electric guitar maker based in Jerusalem, Israel, founded by luthier Tal Macmull and producer/sound engineer Amit Sadras, who built their first two guitars together in 2004 at age 16. The company was officially established around 2010, with pro guitarist Sharon Levi joining as a collaborator and in-house creative foil. Every Macmull instrument is built entirely by hand in limited quantities — roughly 130 per year — with each guitar receiving its own individually wound pickups, matched to the tonal characteristics of the specific body and neck.
The brand's design philosophy centers on what they call R.V.T. (Real Vintage Tone), blending vintage aesthetics, feel, and sonic character with modern reliability and tuning stability. Their lineup includes the Heartbreaker (their best-selling model, available with humbuckers or P-90s), the S-Classic and S-Evolution (Strat-inspired designs), the T-Classic (Tele-inspired), the Stinger, and the PB-Classic and JB-Classic basses. Macmull emphasizes lightweight construction — typically keeping instruments below 3.25 kg — and uses nitrocellulose finishes, Madagascar rosewood fingerboards, and Gotoh hardware across the range.
Macmull guitars have earned recognition among professional players, with jazz guitarist Oz Noy, session guitarist Pete Thorn, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' Mike Campbell among those who have played the brand's instruments. Guitar Magazine named a Macmull model Best Premium Electric Guitar of 2021. The company has remained independently owned, declining outside investment to maintain control over quality and direction.
