Patterning is a circular drum machine app developed by Olympia Noise Co. First released in 2015 for iPad, it introduced an interface built around concentric rings divided into segments, where users tap segments to add hits and swipe outward or inward to set velocity. It was among the first drum machines to offer per-track step lengths, enabling polymetric and polyrhythmic sequencing that is awkward to program on traditional grid-style step sequencers.

The app expanded with Patterning 2 and Patterning 3, the latter adding parametric swing, fill patterns, parameter modulation, an FX track, multiple timelines, and AUv3 plugin support so it can run inside iOS and macOS hosts. Updates to version 3 brought the app to macOS in addition to iPad. The platform is supported by a library of user- and artist-created drum kits shared through its community.

Patterning has been recognized in the iOS music-making scene since launch, including an App Store Runner-Up App of the Year nod for iPad in 2015, and has been reviewed by outlets such as Sound on Sound and MusicTech.
