PCE-FX, short for Piedmont Custom Electronics, is a boutique effects pedal builder based in Greenville, South Carolina, founded by David Danielson. The company is best known for the Aluminum Falcon, a hand-built overdrive pedal inspired by the Klon Centaur circuit that uses NOS germanium clipping diodes to deliver a transparent, touch-sensitive drive.
The Aluminum Falcon line has gone through multiple revisions — the Aluminum Falcon I in a die-cast aluminum enclosure, and later the Aluminum Falcon II and III in heavier steel enclosures with internal and cosmetic refinements. Limited anniversary editions featuring custom etched enclosures have also been produced in small numbered runs. Each unit was assembled by hand, and the pedals have developed a strong following on the secondary market among Klon-style overdrive collectors.
Slide guitarist Derek Trucks has been photographed using an Aluminum Falcon on his pedalboard, which helped raise the small builder's profile beyond the boutique pedal community.
PCE-FX has 3 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Overdrive Effects Pedals. Their gear is featured by 8 artists, with the strongest followings in Rock, Folk, World, & Country, and Pop. Notable users include Mike Ness, Derek Trucks, and Marcus King.
