Petrof is a Czech piano manufacturer founded in 1864 in Hradec Králové by Antonín Petrof, who trained as a piano builder in Vienna with firms including Heintzman & Co., Friedrich Ehrbar, and Schweighofer. The company became one of the largest piano makers in Central Europe, earning an imperial and royal warrant of appointment to the Austro-Hungarian court and a gold medal at the 1934 Brussels World Exhibition. Nationalized after the 1948 Czechoslovak coup, the firm was returned to the Petrof family in 1991 and remains family-led.
Petrof builds acoustic grand and upright pianos, with the standard PETROF line covering models from compact uprights to concert grands such as the Mistral and the Pasat, and a higher-tier ANT. PETROF range introduced in 2014 for the company's 150th anniversary aimed at concert and professional use. The instruments are known for a warm, romantic European tone often associated with the Czech piano-making tradition, and are exported to more than 60 countries. The company has produced over 635,000 instruments since its founding.
