REON is a synthesizer manufacturer based in Osaka, Japan, founded in 2007 by S. Arakawa, a former Panasonic engineer. The company began as an OEM developer of solar and LED products before pivoting to synthesizers, with its first instrument — a gadget-style prototype called Legend — appearing in 2008 at implant4, a small synth shop in Osaka that became REON's exclusive retail outlet for many years. The brand made its international debut at Musikmesse Frankfurt in 2012 and the NAMM Show in 2013, earning a reputation as one of Japan's small independent synth builders.

REON is best known for its Driftbox series of hand-built analog synthesizers, including the dual-VCO Driftbox R, the paraphonic DCO-based Driftbox SE, and the polyphonic Driftbox W. The lineup has expanded to include the Muton semi-modular synthesizer, which is built around the company's proprietary FAM (Flexible Advanced Multiplier) modulation engine, and the Cistron, a hybrid analog/digital groovebox with sampling and FM rhythm capabilities. Other products include the Loci step sequencer series, the M-System C1 modular system, the Driftbox V analog vocoder, and Eurorack-format modules.

The company emphasizes handmade construction in Japan using through-hole components, and its instruments are aimed at experimental and modular-synth players who value tactile control and CV integration. REON exhibits regularly at synth events such as Soundmit and Tokyo Festival of Modular, and its small-batch, boutique approach has given it a niche following among collectors of unusual Japanese synthesizers.
