Rider is a Japanese acoustic guitar brand that originated in the mid-1970s when Mr. Yatsuzuka of the Tokyo music shop Cross Musical Instruments commissioned Hayashi Musical Instruments Mfg. Co. in Matsumoto, Nagano to build guitars under the Rider name. Production was led by luthier Yasuo Momose, and the line became known for Martin-inspired, all-solid-wood dreadnoughts such as the flagship R-1000 (a D-35 replica), the R-800 (a D-28 replica), and the more modest R-350.

The Rider era was brief but influential in the history of Japanese acoustic guitar craftsmanship. In 1977, Momose and several colleagues left Hayashi to establish Headway Guitars, which continued and expanded on the building philosophy behind the Rider instruments. Vintage Rider dreadnoughts from 1975–1976 remain sought after by collectors of boutique Japanese acoustics and frequently appear on the secondary market through shops specializing in vintage Japanese builds.

Separately, the name "Rider" is also used by the Italian distributor Soundsation for a line of double-cutaway electric guitars (the Rider PRO and Rider STD series), which is unrelated to the historical Japanese acoustic brand.
