Founded in 2006 by session musicians Chris Van Tassel and Jay Rockett, J. Rockett Audio Designs is a Southern California-based boutique guitar effects pedal company. The brand builds all of its pedals by hand in the United States, using steel enclosures and a proprietary "Speedswitch" system designed for quick, solder-free repairs. Their lineup spans overdrives, distortions, boosts, compressors, modulation effects, reverbs, delays, fuzzes, and buffers.
J. Rockett is best known for amp-inspired overdrive pedals. The Archer, a tribute to the Klon Centaur, is one of their flagship designs, praised for its headroom and transparent boost characteristics. The Dude captures the sound of the Dumble Overdrive Special amp, while the Lenny draws from Stevie Ray Vaughan's Steel String Singer tones. The Majestic targets Jimmy Page-style overdrive with amp-like sag and sensitivity. Other notable pedals include the Archer Ikon, the HRM, the Aqueous Chorus, the Boing Reverb, and the El Hombre.
The company has collaborated with professional guitarists on signature pedal designs, including Tim Pierce, Guthrie Trapp, Josh Smith, and Steve Stevens. Artists such as Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons, and Mark Lettieri have also been associated with the brand.
