Rusan Original is the custom guitar line of luthier Dave Rusan, operating out of Rusan Guitarworks in Bloomington, Minnesota, near Minneapolis. Rusan built the first Cloud guitar in 1983 while working at Knut-Koupée Music, commissioned for Prince's stage use and the film Purple Rain. He went on to build several Cloud guitars for Prince in the mid-1980s, including one given away through a Warner Bros. contest.

The brand focuses on meticulously handcrafted Cloud-style solidbody electric guitars, built one at a time to the exact specifications of the original Prince instrument. Each Rusan Original takes roughly 100 hours to complete and incorporates new-old-stock parts to stay faithful to the 1980s build. Rusan emphasizes that the guitars are carved by him personally in his shop rather than mass-produced reproductions.
