RYK Modular is an East London–based builder of Eurorack synthesizer modules, founded in 2009 by Jake Knight. The company debuted with the M185, a sequencer originally designed in the Roland System 100m format and inspired in part by the note-skipping sequencing Knight had observed in Yellow Magic Orchestra performances. The M185 design was later licensed to Intellijel and served as the basis for their Metropolis and Metropolix sequencers, giving RYK an outsized influence on the modern Eurorack sequencer landscape.
The product line has since grown to include the ALGO 4-operator FM oscillator, the Vector Wave stereo FM/vector synthesis voice (and its companion Vector Wave Expander), the Night Rider quad sequential resonator, the Envy Machine quad modulation module, and the Time Slice audio looper/sampler. Modules are sold both as finished units and as DIY kits, often through partners such as Thonk. RYK occupies a boutique niche focused on hands-on, performance-oriented designs with a bias toward complex modulation, FM synthesis, and playable sequencing.
