Samplitude is a digital audio workstation for Windows, originally developed in 1992 for the Commodore Amiga by the German audio company SEK'D (formerly Hohner Midia). MAGIX acquired the product line in 1999 and developed it for decades alongside its broadcast-oriented sibling, Sequoia. The Samplitude family is now part of the Boris FX audio portfolio, with the consumer-friendly Samplitude Music Studio and the professional Samplitude Pro X (and Pro X Suite) tiers covering recording, editing, mixing, and mastering.
The DAW is best known for its object-based editing model, which treats audio regions as discrete "objects" with their own effects, automation, and processing rather than as clips on a track. Other distinguishing features include destructive and non-destructive spectral editing, a hybrid mixing engine designed for transparent summing, support for up to 999 tracks, native VST3 plugin hosting, and bundled mastering tools — recent Suite editions have packaged third-party plugins from iZotope's mastering line and SOUND FORGE Pro.
While Samplitude has never reached the mainstream profile of Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Cubase, it has long held a niche reputation among classical, orchestral, and mastering engineers — particularly in Germany and the broader European pro-audio community — who value its sonic neutrality and object-based workflow for high-resolution work.
