Sansula is a line of frame-mounted kalimbas designed and built by HOKEMA, a family-run instrument workshop founded by Peter Hokema in 1985 in Walsrode, Lower Saxony, Germany. The Sansula itself was invented by Peter Hokema in 2001 — an oval laminated beech frame covered with a tensioned membrane, with a small kalimba suspended in the center so its tines vibrate freely against the drumhead. The result is a long, soft, overtone-rich tone that can be modulated into a wah-like effect by lifting and lowering the instrument over a surface, which has made it a fixture in sound healing, meditation, and ambient music settings.

The range includes the Sansula Basic (the original model), the Sansula Deluxe with a tunable goatskin membrane, the Sansula Renaissance built on a REMO synthetic drumhead, and the Sansula Renaissance Elektro with an integrated piezo pickup and microphone for amplified or recorded use. A Sansula Basic Melody version is offered in G major tuning, while the standard models ship in A minor pentatonic. All instruments are handmade in Germany from European hardwoods such as beech and cherry, finished with vegetable linen oil rather than synthetic lacquers.

Alongside the Sansula, HOKEMA produces a broader catalog of standard kalimbas and electro-kalimbas, but the Sansula remains the company's signature design and the model most associated with the brand outside Germany.
