Founded in 1872 by German immigrant Albert Schoenhut in Philadelphia, the Schoenhut Piano Company is one of the oldest toy and children's instrument manufacturers in the United States. Albert Schoenhut revolutionized the toy piano by replacing fragile glass sounding plates with durable steel ones while working at Wanamaker's department store, then launched his own company to manufacture improved toy pianos. By the early 1900s, Schoenhut had grown into the largest toy company in America and the first U.S. toy maker to export products to Germany.

Schoenhut produces a wide range of children's and toy pianos — from tabletop models like the 18 Key My First Piano to the 37 Key Concert Grand and Elite Baby Grand — as well as harps, guitars, melodicas, thumb pianos, drum sets, and percussion instrument collections. Often called the "Steinway of Toy Pianos," the brand occupies a unique niche between toy and legitimate musical instrument. Schoenhut pianos hold the distinction of being the first toy instrument played at Carnegie Hall, and the company maintains an artist roster of over 30 professional musicians, including toy piano virtuoso Margaret Leng Tan and composer-performer Phyllis Chen. The company is based in St. Augustine, Florida.
