Slammer by Hamer is the entry-level, import-built sub-brand of Hamer Guitars, the boutique American electric guitar maker founded by Paul Hamer and Jol Dantzig in the 1970s. Under parent company Kaman Music, Hamer used the Slammer name for affordably priced instruments aimed at beginners and players looking for Hamer-style designs at a budget tier. Earlier Slammer models were built in Korea, and from 1996 onward the Slammer by Hamer line was produced in Indonesia, with retail prices generally under $400.
The lineup mixed Hamer-derived shapes such as the Californian and Centaura with more generic takes on common American body styles, including single-cut LP-style and double-cut superstrat models. Typical configurations included three-single-coil setups (DA3), HSH layouts (DA212), and twin-humbucker models (DA21), along with bass guitars and acoustic models that carried the Slammer badge. Pickups, hardware, and finishes were spec'd to a budget price point rather than to the higher standards of USA-built Hamers.
The Slammer name has a separate, earlier history as a pickup designation: in the 1980s, DiMarzio-wound "Hamer Slammer" pickups were factory-installed in USA-made Hamers, which is unrelated to the later import guitar series. The Slammer by Hamer guitar line was discontinued in 2009 when Kaman wound down Hamer's import operations, leaving these instruments as used-market collectibles primarily traded on Reverb, eBay, and guitar enthusiast forums.
