Sonic Potions is a small German synthesizer company founded by Julian Schmidt, based in Schwärzelbach, Germany. Schmidt has been active in the synth-DIY scene since the early 2000s and previously worked as a developer in the music industry, including on the Scope DSP platform and the John Bowen Solaris synthesizer. The company specializes in DIY synthesizer kits and assembled instruments, with a particular focus on the Eurorack modular format and standalone drum machines.

The brand is best known for the LXR drum synthesizer, a digital drum machine capable of producing a wide range of percussion sounds spanning classic analog-style, gritty digital, and clean modern tones. The original LXR-01 was offered as a DIY kit, and the design was later revised in collaboration with Erica Synths as the assembled LXR-02. Sonic Potions also produces Eurorack modules including the Penrose quantizer, the Descent, and the Mal-2, along with the RE-303 CPU board for 303-style clones. Many of the projects are open source, with schematics and firmware released publicly.
