Starr Labs is a San Diego-based manufacturer of custom MIDI controllers, founded by Harvey Starr and best known for the Ztar — a guitar-shaped MIDI controller that replaces strings and pickups with a fretboard of pressure-sensitive buttons arranged in rows and columns to mirror a traditional fingerboard. Originally established as the Starr Switch Company before adopting the Starr Labs name in 1996, the company has been building guitar-form MIDI instruments since the early 1990s.

The Ztar line spans several configurations, including the Z6S and Z7S full-size models, the smaller Mini-Z and BabyZ, the GoTar-3, the ZBass, and the Clipper DX.
