Stimer is a French manufacturer of guitar pickups and amplifiers founded in 1946 by Jean Guen, a radio engineer, in a small workshop on rue d'Alençon in Courbevoie, just outside Paris. Jean was joined by his brother Yves in 1948, and together — operating as Établissements Guen Frères — they produced what is widely regarded as the first French-made guitar pickup, the ST48, released the same year. The brand quickly became associated with the gypsy jazz tradition after Django Reinhardt adopted Stimer gear, pairing the ST48 floating pickup with a Stimer M12 amplifier to amplify his acoustic Selmer-Maccaferri guitar without sacrificing its acoustic character.

The Stimer catalog grew to include the no-drill S51 floating pickup — known for its distinctive "monkey on a stick" mounting rod that clamps behind the bridge — along with a line of tube amplifiers (the M6, M8, M10, M12 and later Nuance models), accordion pickups, and a handful of solid-body electric guitars. The single-coil ST48 and S51 remain the defining Stimer products, prized for the bright, cutting tone that became inseparable from postwar Parisian jazz manouche.

The Guen brothers ended their partnership in the late 1950s, with Yves keeping the Stimer business running until his death in 1986. Production wound down in the mid-1990s, and the original Stimer designs are best known today through licensed reissues built by French luthier Maurice Dupont, which are widely used by gypsy jazz players seeking the classic Django-era amplified sound.
