Sumiko is a phono cartridge maker that began producing cartridges in 1982, starting with the Talisman moving coil model and followed in 1984 by the Alchemist MC. The brand's cartridges are hand-built at the Excel Sound factory in Yokohama, Japan, under longtime designer Masao Okada, while the company itself operates out of Maple Grove, Minnesota.

The lineup is organized into two broad families: budget to mid-tier moving magnet designs and higher-end low-output moving coil reference cartridges. Familiar models include the Oyster series and the bird-named tier — Rainier, Olympia, Moonstone, Amethyst, Wellfleet, Songbird, Starling, Blackbird, and Palo Santo — covering price points from entry-level vinyl rigs up through audiophile reference systems.
