Tab Funkenwerk is a boutique pro-audio manufacturer founded by Oliver Archut, a German-born engineer who began his career at AEG-Telefunken before relocating to the United States and setting up shop in Gaylord, Kansas. The company grew out of Archut's decades of work repairing and reverse-engineering vintage Telefunken broadcast gear, aided by a trove of original schematics, manufacturing manuals, and spec sheets he salvaged from the Telefunken archives. After restoring hundreds of historic V-series units, Archut began building his own from scratch using hand-wound transformers, custom laminations, and NOS tubes.

The brand is best known for its meticulous recreations of mid-century Telefunken and Siemens studio equipment. Its catalog includes tube microphone preamps modeled on the V72, V76, V77, and V78 platforms, along with the U73M tube limiter, T71 and V71 direct boxes, and the T74 splitter. Tab Funkenwerk also designs and builds microphones in the UM and F44 series and supplies DIY microphone kits — including U47a, M49a, and C12a builds — that draw on original German large-diaphragm capsule designs.

The T58 replacement transformer for the Shure SM57 is among the better-known aftermarket parts associated with the brand, and Tab Funkenwerk also develops Oahu-line guitar amplifiers alongside its studio gear.
