Checking the source's reliability

I thought I'd made this thread just to check sources we (or at least I) 'm/are really unsure about. Anyway, here is the case.

I try to do my best for Noel Gallagher's rig, considering he's my favourite artist. Anyway, I did some research on his vocal range and I suddenly came to "Take Me Away" video. Anyway, in the comments section, there is a guy named David Scott, which was an engineer on "Definitely Maybe", which clearly explains how the song was made.

Whaddaya think? Is this source reliable. Here's what he says : "As the engineer who recorded and mixed this track, I can tell you for certain that Noel played both guitars on this record. We used his epiphone (J200 copy) acoustic guitar. The slide was done using a calrec condensor microphone for the slide bar (we tried conventional bottlenecks, beer glasses etc but they weren't right) and recorded with a vintage neumann U87 microphone. It was then processed through a roland space echo to give it the harmonic echo quality that it has. The whole thing was recorded and mixed in less than half an hour. Then we did supersonic.?"

Oh, man. If it's legitimate, that's a great source. I'd be open to hearing other Equipboarders' opinions on if this is acceptable proof or not.

There is indeed a Dave Scott credited with engineering/mixing on that record. He's got a Google Plus page, but it doesn't really reveal much. Here's his LinkedIn, I was trying to see if I could connect his two accounts, but no such luck. In the photos it all looks like the same guy.

I would be inclined to count this as legit proof... anyone else have any thoughts?

the level of detail and creativity lends it credence.... that's a very detailed description there.... the repurposing of an obscure, vintage microphone is just too strange to be fabricated, you can't make up a good studio story like this, when you are cracking away at a record weird things like this pop into your head to try out as the song inspires you that you would never think of otherwise. This is so out of left field that I think the whole thing is true. Even if Mr Scott did not post this story, I think that whoever decided to impersonate him must have heard it from him and then repeated the particulars here verbatim. Taking a listen to the song right now I definitely hear space echo... I would know, I used to have a chorus echo.

"proof" like this though should be case per case, in this instance I have no doubt the calrec mic-slide, U87 and space echo are 100% correct. Something less weird I would second guess. Anyone can say "I recorded this and we used a les paul and a plexi through so and so's 4x12 miked up with an akg 414." Well who hasn't recorded guitar that way? But this? This is so specific and interesting that I buy it.

Sweet, thanks for weighing in Jim, I agree w you.

Whoever submits this one, would be cool to grab a screenshot of the comment rather than just link to the youtube video for proof. You can use a service like imgur to easily upload the screenshot, grab the .jpg (or .png) URL to the image and use that as proof on EB.

Actually, I'm going to try contacting mr. Scott. I have no idea how Google+ works, but LinkedIn will do. I hope that we will get a lots of info on NG's gear, becausd that's what we're aiming for!

Anyway, why can't you just upload the photo to the Equipboard? I mean, many forum sites have those possibilities, including the Green Day Community...

good eye spotting this, by the way... I never read the comments on youtube videos, guess now I should start

How about this site? http://www.gemarchergear.com/ I find it legitimate, especially because this guy got to see Gem himself, discuss about his gear and even take a photo of his pedalboard! The gear is somewhat legit, and I find the whole website legit!
