Cobra Lead

Hey everyone! this is VIPER! i will be now asking for more questions about sound Design. I was asking if anyone could help me do the drop lead Cobra from Tony Junior and Dropgun on serum or massive. To be more specific, if you look on Soundcloud and check Cobra from Tony Junior & Dropgun (Sander van Doorn Identity Premiere) with the "available June 22" right next to it, you should be able to listen the drop lead at 0.54. Can't wait for comments! ;)

THIS is the REAL Viper guys. Don't believe the other one. He lie to you G.I.! He's come here to try and steal my tones! :)

Hey Boom762. What do you mean?

Just having fun with you. You always put who your are and of course each post has your name and avatar next to it ;)

Ohhhh. :)

Hey Viper! I'm a fan of Sander van Doorn's Identity show too :)

On this YouTube video the drop is at around 1:28:

I don't know exactly how to make that lead. However, it's not all that different from other electro-house track leads. I'm more familiar with Sylenth than Serum or Massive, but one thing that took my productions to the next level was really learning how to make my own lead from scratch in Sylenth. In the beginning it was super easy for me to just cycle through endless presets and randomly tweak knobs. But actually learning sound design, especially for things like leads, risers, and random effects was huge! Try following along some sound design tutorials on YouTube. Here's a good one I found "How To Make the Perfect Saw Lead in Massive":

I know in a previous post you mentioned not being able to use YouTube, so maybe you could find a written tutorial? I saw on your Equipboard that you're using FL Studio 10. Here's a written tutorial on making an electro lead/bass type sound using FL: http://howtomakeelectronicmusic.com/how-to-create-electro-lead-bass

I think once you really start figuring out what's what in Massive, you can replicate any lead you hear fairly easily (or at least come close to it). It's hard work learning sound design, but once you're there it's like a switch goes off and you can design just about ANYTHING!

Specific to the lead in the track Cobra, it sounds super widened to me, and has loads of reverb (seems like the original lead was doubled and the duplicate is washed in reverb). The way the melody is played gives this one a lot of character, too. Several staccato notes at the beginning which you can pull off in the piano roll, and then after that it's pretty easy to replicate.

I hope this helps

Hey gchiaren! thank you for comment! it is really helpful. But did I really put Fl Studio as one of my DAW's? if I did, then I think I actually wanted to post it as a DAw that I wanted.

I dig that drop. I love Maqam Hijaz and Phrygian Dominant scales. I accidentally use them when writing a lot and it makes the music I'm playing feel more archaic to me.

I didn't wanna make a fool of myself and completely mess up what those scales are called! Nice work :) And yes I agree, they definitely have an archaic feel.

Hey! If you're looking for a great book on synthesis there's a free ebook by Simon Cann. Here's the link

I misquote and mispell stuff all the time. You can't discredit yourself in my eyes that way ;)
