Equipboard Improvement Ideas

Hi all,

I hope that this is the right place to ask for some help. I have been trying to add some gear to artists but I keep running into the same two errors: (1) When I select a piece of gear, it still continues to say 'no item selected'. (2) When I try to add the gear submission, the second error says 'commentable must exist'. I'm not really sure what this means.

Any advice/tips is greatly appreciated!

Is there a technical or business reason Bandcamp isn't one of the social media links you can add to an artist?

For Artists that are 1) still alive and 2) not billionaires yet, which is.. like... a lot of artists... Bandcamp isn't a bad idea.

When you add Gear to an Artist Then there is just a very small Size Picture of the Gear Poping up hard to see if its really the Gear you wanna add. There has to Pop up something showing the bigger Picture somehow before you finally Add the Gear , maybe also in the next page, I think this will save a lot of work and time of deleting wrong submissions later.

Also to have Brand add like Video add under Item gear add , cause a lot of times you wanna add an Item or gear and then you see that the brand does not exist , so you have to move back and 1st add the brand before the gear.

I would love to have an aggregate view of my followed artists' equipment. That way I can know that the most common piece of equipment among my followed artists is the XYZ compressor, followed by the ABC amp and so on. That way I would not need to manually explore each of my artists and remember what they had.

Notification says [username] "mentioned" me but there is no link pointing to where. So, the notification is useless. It would be nice if it was hyperlinked like all the other notifications.

Also, the email I received informing me about this notification had a broken link in it. The email had a giant, orange "reply" button at the bottom but it wasn't clickable.

Is there a place we can request reviews for our submissions?

Is there a place we can request reviews for our submissions?

Best way to get your stuff reviewed is to find someone who is posting a lot recently, and review their stuff for them... if they're a decent human being, they'll return the favor.

That said, I just reviewed everything that you've got up that didn't have a look yet.

I agree. Adding a video to a gear item is one way to grow your "gear IQ" but I can't see where to do it either! I have an amp demo I'd like to link to my favorite lesser known amp.

I simply want to add videos or video links to gear that doesn't have a video yet. There are some great items that I know very well and they are already on equip board but they don't have any videos linked yet. How can I link videos to the gear items?

Go to "Edit Gear Details" > scroll down to "Item Videos" > "Add Video".

Once you upload the video and save the change, the video doesn't always show up right away, but it will eventually show up.

I got a great Idea, but it might be a lot of Programming When there is an Item / Gear in different Colors, Variants ... and you Add Pictures to it, it might be cool , you can freeze the picture , like for an Artist the Guitar is not red , its black , so you freeze the black picture of it and other can freeze the red picture, when they got the red color.

I love this idea, mostly because it's very similar to an idea I've been pushing for years:

Let each user choose which item photo is displayed when that item is in their own Equipboard.

E.g., If I have a Fender Player Jaguar in my Equipboard, and the default picture is Black, but I own one that is Candy Apple Red, I can upload a picture in Candy Apple Red to that item entry, and make that the default view for my personal Equipboard, while the item still shows the Black picture as default everywhere else.

This would greatly reduce the number of people who want/need to add "duplicate" entries with a different color, so that the color they see in their Equipboard matches what they own in real life. Personally, I feel it is very important that people's instruments look true-to-life in their own Equipboard, as people are often very attached to the colors they selected, and I want people to feel proud about their page and excited to show it off to others... but I also love data and organizing data, and it drives me crazy to have a review for a black Fender Player Strat is in one place and a review for the exact same guitar in white in a totally different, non-related place in the database... or to know that nobody is going to know that an artist uses a certain pair of headphones or certain brand of studio monitors if they are spotted with an item in a limited-run color, because then it's likely to get logged as a totally separate item that will get buried at the bottom of the search results.

As for selecting a new default image ("freeze") for each Artist Equipboard, as you propose, I don't think the Artist context is as important as letting individual community members choose colors for their own pages, but it would certainly be nice to have this for Artist pages too. Especially when an Artist is associated with a certain color/finish instrument.

Hello, first of all, great site. I have a masters degree in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Archive Management- and I have been nerding out on this site for several months.

I am a bass guitarist and I have found so many duplicate instruments. I have done my best to consolidate articles the best I can by renaming pages as duplicates, with the version which has the highest equipboard score, most artists, and most reviews taking precedence. Is there a way to merge the numbers from the duplicates into the authoritative entry?

Also, it would be awesome to have a heirarchy level for the model. As a prime example, the Fender/Squier Precision Bass occupies probably 40% of the sales of bass guitars. It would be cool to be able to search by this and see the different submodels of this and see larger statistics of them mashed together in a parent entry. Just a thought.

This place is great, thanks!

Adding "Duplicate" to an item's name is likely to annoy anyone who has that item in their own Equipboard. Best to submit the item as a duplicate through the site's own process:

https://equipboard.com/duplicate_items/new?original_id=13616

When you do a search for an item, you'll see "Submit as a Duplicate" next to the name of each Search result.

Your Duplicate submission will sit there for months, but they eventually get tended to.

Where have you been all these years, Vagen? I've been shouting about this for years, mostly to a chorus of crickets. It's nice to hear the someone else in the community is also down for some structure.

Fender (10k Artists) > Fender Basses (5k Artists) > Precision Basses (2.5k Artists) > '57 AVRI Precision Bass (40 Artists).

The good news is Equipboard's Lead Engineer/Cofounder has assured me he gets it, and wants the same -- but it sounds like it's one of those things where adding Instrument hierarchy now is gonna require a major database overhaul. In other words, they need like an extra million users a year to start clicking on ads and using those affiliate links :)

I think it will be great to expand the Brand , ... like adding or editing afterwards Brand Logo Pictures , some Brands get added without a Logo, with a Logo its easier to identify the Brand. Some Brand you know only by the 1st Name and not like Drums, Guitars, Music, Amplifier, Sound, Lab, Electronitcs and so ......in the End, with the Logo its easier to make sure you add the right Brand. And we might add under the Brand Site were all Products listed a Link to their website, that would be great, like we have on artists. Then its easier to check if products are right and the brand and easier to add more details when missing, then you do just need to click the link. We might make the Website Link with the Logo as Edit, I am not a programmer, but I think its the easiest way.
