... and you could see what gear built up to Trent Reznor. Maybe that's also a bad example ...

Perfect example as far as I'm concerned, because I've just gone through that exact process. I belatedly realized how influential Gary Numan was on Reznor after finally listening to The Pleasure Principle for the first time this year. (Also discovered that the riff I loved in Basement Jaxx's "Where's Your Head At" was just a Gary Numan sample, so that was embarrassing.) Equipboard was part of that process for me & led me to spending more time with my Arturia Mini V softsynth.

Not sure how you'd setup the musicology feature though, because from NIN & Einstรผrzende Neubauten (and even Sisters Of Mercy via the Korg A3) you can get to... U2's Achtung Baby album. But pointing from NIN to U2 circa Joshua Tree / Rattle & Hum would be ludicrous.

This is clean! Nice!

Thank you! And it's not just skin deep. We rebuilt it from the ground up, which means cleaner/faster code, and the ability to make changes much faster, for whenever you crazy bunch throw ideas at us :)

Feels inconsistent in relation to the home page & forums though. Guessing you guys are gonna refresh those next.

Right you are, Equipboard's codebase has gotten quite large over the years. And we get a substantial amount of traffic, so it works best to roll out one major piece at a time.

can i still post reviews to gear?

Absolutely! You click on the stars from the gear "cards" on your own page. Perhaps we should make that more obvious, with a "read review" or "edit review" link... ๐Ÿค”

what if you did an artist recommender.

That sounds really cool, but realistically we're a ways away from that. Before, the gear recommender could stand to be cleaned up and modernized, and every time I personally use it I think of improvements.

Next we are going to tackle bringing back gear photos. The existing ones are still there, you can still get to them by going to equipboard. com /[your_username] /photos. But they are still on the "old" site. They are going to become an integral part of people's profiles, and in fact lead the way before you get to the gear.

but no no, that's precisely what I'm on about, like soemthing that will map the use of a piece of gear back in time from your artist maybe? I dunno exactly. Or what if you could see a lineage? like the whole family of curtis filter analog polysynths? Lots of different brands with the same filters and often VCOs... its ambitious and I'm not a programmer or web designer, but I think its worth thinking about.

I think I might be in an A/B test group! ;) I've already got a "Read Review" link there if I actually wrote a text review for an item. Clicking on the stars on my own page doesn't do anything for me in many cases though - I suspect those might be items that I gave a star rating but skipped writing the text review. It makes it look like there's no way for me to edit those ratings/reviews. (I've figured out that if I click through to the item I can edit my review by clicking on the stars on that page, though.)

I liked the method where I could directly rate items from that screen by hovering my mouse and just clicking on the appropriate star rating (and the graphic would highlight my rating as I hovered my mouse over it), but it's not a big deal for me if that's changed.

Loving life with the new profile UI thus far. Cleaner, some reduction in cognitive load, but with nothing meaningful lost vs. old layout... for me at least.

Question: when will we regain the ability to change the order in which gear categories display on our own pages?

I had some fun re-naming and creating new categories this AM (awesome) but now I need to give these newly-created categories higher billing than just above my wishlist.

Good catch. I'll make those clickable so the star rating can be changed if you so choose.

Question: when will we regain the ability to change the order in which gear categories display on our own pages?

A great idea, and easy enough to do. Was honestly just waiting for someone to say it!

You guys asked us for this one over and over and yet I haven't heard any feedback about it yet ๐Ÿ˜†... did you notice you can set any three favorites using the heart icon? And those are the three that will accompany your forum posts. Give it a shot!

Playing with it myself, I find myself wanting the ability to have a "move" option on each item I've already saved, under the "..." menu. It would essentially be the same save item menu, but it would allow me to shuffle items between lists more easily (uncheck one and check another). For instance, I've recently sold and bought gear so I would use that to move some pedals from my "Pedalboard" list to my "Had" list more easily.

Keep the feedback coming if you have any - good or bad, we wanna hear it!

Whoa!

I saw "Favorite" but hadn't gotten around to finding out what it did yet. Crystal clear once you try it, love how this is implemented/presented... and a nice quasi-CTA to help get a few more bodies interested in the forums.

It's actually very interesting to see all your favorites. Who knew, your fav gear is not a set of strings or a mic stand? ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Makes me think, should favorites be more prominently displayed on the profile (not just confined to the forum)? Maybe make the heart icon show within the cards when you're viewing someone else's profile?

I like the heart icon idea.... it would be cool if you could make favorites a category at the top maybe?

so I noticed a glitch reordering my gear on my profile. The polysix was at the bottom. I moved it up, I hit show more and there were 2 polysixes. One where I moved it and one at the bottom. So I deleted the 2nd one at the bottom. They all disappeared. I added it again, moved it up, now I see 2 again.

I had a similar thought when gchiaren proposed making favorites visible on your personal EB page: even if users could see hearts next to the items nearest and dearest to me, I would probably go ahead and make a new category called "Favorites" (or similar) anyway, and (once we have the ability to reorder categories), put that category at the top. Items can now belong to multiple categories, so if one wants to highlight an item in some kind of "spotlight" category, you can do that without messing up the logical tagging of the collection.

Personally, with all the work the EB Team has put into making the cleanest-possible card UI, I have mixed feelings about adding any new visual elements until the dust settles and we've all had a chance to get comfortable with all that's just been granted to us... but this is just one opinion from one user, of course.

DITTO! These last two days have felt a bit like EB Christmas each time I log in. It's SO DIFFICULT to redesign without disgruntling those who invested in memorizing all aspects of the previous design... (stating the obvious) angering some existing hardcore users is more or less a consequence you have to accept to move things forward and make a better experience for the users you've yet to attract... but I'm a reasonably-established user, and I'm delighted. :D

Congrats! I'm so glad your epic Juno search ended with a well-serviced, MIDI'd, growling beast of an investment that strengthened your faith in the big-K.

still need a jupiter layer but hey... getting there!

Thanks for holding myhand through this awful process. Im surprised at how snappy the envelopes on this thing are, they're pretty much juno fast even though tis not its reputation, its just less punch but more swirly and midrangey. Anyway, I'll probably make a video soon.

Fixed! That was a great catch Jim. The first 20 items that show under a gear list were being properly sorted, but not the next sets of 20 after hitting "Show More" ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
