I like the Boiler Room YouTube Channel (the website is better though)

It educated my on musics that I don't listen much.
Though, I kinda prefer the 2014 period.

Youtube has become unwatchable to me. Almost any video that is more than 12mins in length gets hit with a 55sec ad. It really takes you out. Anyway one of the few music / gear related channels that I sometimes watch is five watt world and David Bennet. I actually prefer Beato's 2nd channel over his primary one. The more interesting interviews to me are uploaded to his 2nd channel. As for guitar / gear channels, most are unwatchable. Some of them can barely play.

Ha! I had just removed David Bennet from my list -- I didn't think he was still making content. One of the best music theory wonks out there. Glad he's still in the game.

5 Watt World has a nice smooth delivery, just watched their Stingray vid the other day. I must admit I am a bit envious of this man's amazing facial hair. I mean, I've had a beard for 20 years, but... not like that.

Yeah, Rick is probably the best music interviewer working today. If you've had any kind of a career, you're going to get considered in the most thoughtful and dignified light possible with Rick. I appreciate that.

Yea Julian Krause goes very deep into Studio Gear technical and scientific , some also like: https://www.youtube.com/@AndrewChapmanCreative on Studio Gear and not gear but simple and alternative studio recording technics : https://www.youtube.com/@RobotDogStudio Here is a young , japanese cover band of Chatmochy and Mass of the Fermenting Dregs , who now did their own Songs under the Band Name: "When a Whale Dies" , I do follow and giving support: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGuIWSQCJE4

And fun to watch is Drumeo , also when you are not a drummer, where drummers do not know the song and had to make the beat.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80lys4YdafM

For Guitar beginers wanna learn a simple but massive sounding Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L6cD-XbhwA

I would specially bass beginers also tell to learn this Song , but I still not found the right bass lines are played like natsuko does.

And this how its ends when japanese Bizz People come to visit Germany: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45ldRFt0uYA And there is even a Part 2 of that going more insane, i do not wanna show, you have to search for yourself , hahahaha. So When you like Part 1 , Part 2 will make you even more happy.

Ha! THIS is exactly the kind of party I hope to walk in on when I go poking around in big boring hotels.

I guess I've always assumed you're a person of Japanese descent who has lived in Germany most of their lives, @hashimoto, but what's your story? Dual citizen of Japan and Germany? Family from Japan? 10th-generation German national? I have no idea, really.

Love these guys, always a chill and pleasing couple of minutes.

The intentional coziness gets a bit too inauthentically precious sometimes (e.g. fresh-brewed latte in the 303 vid), but I appreciate that they generally have really great taste (e.g. they included Roy of the Ravers in the thumbnail and in the outro music).

I just stumbled on them, they're great! I already figured out a lot of this stuff but sometimes they surprise me. I think they're a couple because it's definitely a lady playing the keys parts. Which might explain the goofy domestic coziness.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the production team being a couple.

I'm going to be honest, I put their videos on my watch later prolly 2 years ago and forgot about them. I'm in catch up mode lately. Business has been bad but the upshot is getting to work on my own music and watching hours of YouTube stuff I never got around to.

I've been heavily into Tonepusher and Alex Ball lately... this new Alex Ball Oberheim video is so informative, chock full of anecdotes I've never heard!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdSWZDmgnjQ

god I regret selling my SEM module but it was a mess of pitch drift... man I want an OBX and an expander or matrix12.... speaking of which I regret selling my matrix1000, I needed money and it killed me because if you could deal with the interface and could patiently send midi CC dat it was a beast

Tonepusher has been a hot topic with my Industrial/EBM friends, that dude has cornered the market.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6J2ABG3GBFw

I suspect that some day soon, someone will make a Matrix 12/ Xpander clone that's as worthy as the many OB repros that are on the market now... but I doubt it will be in 1-unit rack format... sadly...

Is it time to start a boutique synth/FX company that ships 1 and 2-unit rack conversions of today's most popular products?

GEAR:

I have thought about getting into boutique MI before because I occasionally draw up stuff that would work (sometimes I even build it if I have the expensive bits lying aorund form salvage, I have a pretty cool discrete germanium mic preamp prototype built from a salvaged 60s phono amp that sounds pretty good but needs some power regulation and I got distracted before I settled on a regulator and support circuit, drew a few up but haven't been sure how to jam it in there even with the very low parts count, I'm using the old Gates housing right now and its cramped). But every time I've mused about a boutique synth design I stop dead because the de rigeur patch storage and midi are beyond my expertise to say nothing of doing a poly like the expander. And what about that matrix system it has? Intimidating. I just don't have the interest in those digital elements to tough out the learning curve. I like to have them but I don't care how they work for some reason. The audio circuits of the expander are pretty simple CEM based affairs, you could just copy the schematics or easily make something that works even better if money is no object. The fun part is those digital features though.
