If you could play guitar like anyone, but still be you, who would you choose?

Imagine you could instantly acquire any guitarist's skill and style, but you would still be you. That is, I'm not asking what guitarist you would wanna become, but if you could absorb just their skill, style, chops... who would u choose??

I'll start. John Frusciante for me.

His feel, his improvisational skills... second to none. I love his Hendrix-inspired style. Only thing is I'm not a huge Strat fan, but if I had his collection, life wouldn't be too bad... :P

Ok, I'll bite. I'd want Matthew Bellamy's skills. Frusciante is a close second.

Dat piano to dat guitar. I know I know, not the most earth shatteringly difficult thing to play, but his swagger... I mean, c'mon...

Nice! Ok but why specifically

Amazing player

I'd love to be able to play bass like Les Claypool or Bootsy Collins. They've got so much funk it hurts.

Brad Gillis.

Right now I sound like Ace Frehley trying to sound like Brad or Eddie Van Halen.

I do play to my strengths and have come to accept it LOL

I am not a great guitarist (better on the drums, actually), but I have twin ambitions on this front. Nile Rogers Johnny Marr

Fortunately, their styles have some similarities, but playing along to Chic songs is easier than The Smiths technically, but there is a precision to Rogers' right hand which is quite amazing. The big revelation about Marr for me was discovering his use of capo on almost everything. In the UK, The Smiths were often on Top of the Pops, and because they always mimed, the guitars never had a capo (I suppose they are a visual distraction), so I always tried to play without one - bloody hard. Thanks to Youtube and endless discussions on style, I know where to start and some of the songs, even the ones with complex picking like the solo on Big Mouth Strikes Again) are quite simple. They still demand pretty quick fingers to get to some of the more unusual chord shapes though.

And here they are together. (I think Johnny Marr named his son Nile...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyMb3yqWEOc

I would also like to have Matthew Belllamy's mad guitar/piano skills, he is truly talented.

I definitly would want John 5 skills, he can do any style, from country to spanish, to flamenco, metal. Then he plays with his fingers awesome..

That's really nice. His fingers are dancing on that massive fretboard, it's kinda mesmerizing to watch.

For me, it has to be the King of Gristle, Greg Koch. Un-f***ing-believable.

It's the whole show

Jack White. I can play some of his stuff note for note (Icky thump, Sixteen saltines) but his innate understanding of how to get the most out each strumming pattern or run is nothing short of inspiring.

Not sure about the theremin, though ;)

SRV or John Frusciante

Gotta be Danny Gatton
