Politics

I would love to hear what you guys think of the current political situation. 2017 could be an important year with Trump building walls and talking smack, UK leaving the EU and the upcoming votes in France and Germany.

Well, I'm certainly surprised and impressed at how many things Trump is tackling. I don't follow politics usually, but the news sites are covered in American politics these days. I think destroying the EU and really, the UN is a terrific idea. It doesn't seem to work well. North Korea is a prime example.

just playing devil's advocate here, but by your logic if your bass stops working you would smash it rather than repair it.... or hey, here's a better one, the roads in philly are littered with potholes, but rather than patch them every summer lets rip them up and have dirt roads! Asphalt's not working, lets go back to what we had before paved roads because that was fine. And you know what? What's good for Philly is good for America so lets rip your roads up in Texas too. Get rid of all those expensive and irritating interstates while we're at it. They cause traffic, cause it! they're not working, fuck it, lets get rid of them. We'll replace them with something terrific! I don't know what that will be, but it'll be great and it won't cost you anything... I swear.

okay, I'm out now

Forgive the Australian... compulsory voting here.

So America has an election, but Americans can choose not to vote.

Those who vote, vote in Trump. Then everyone sits back and screams "oh what a mess!"

This. Sounded. Avoidable.

So now we have to wait til end of term, so that your nation can tear down so much more than a physical wall that has divided the world.

Hey Boom... any conspiracy theory hardening a scheduled presidential offing?

Trump building walls

After President Enrique's response, hell no. It won't happen, now unless Trump can get him to break radio silence and actually negotiate.

I'm surprised as well by how many executive orders he's pushing out. And now with the order on the military? Looks like he's ordering a review on the military to refocus money on whatever's most efficient on destroying ISIS and wrapping up the war as quickly as possible.

this election had a really serious voter turnout, so it wasn't so different from your country

Please forgive me for my forwardness or foolishness:

It is exciting to see the people are taking their countries back. Globalism isn't working; it reduces everyone to a level playing field. Nationalism isn't much better for the world in general but it allows nations to build on their strengths. Being strong allows puts you in a better position to help others but you have to start at home first.

Yes there are going to be bumps in the road but as with taking medicine it is painful at times and sucks but in the long run you are better off for it.

I have British friends that were not happy with the Brexit result. I was in disagreement with them but we are still friends nonetheless. It is good for a nation to have elected representatives and in the EU many measures are burdened on the people without a vote nor can the people choose their representation. I see the EU as a Oligarchy and a Plutocracy. On paper it looks good but in the end it ignores the interest of the governed.

If France elects a non socialist like LePen I believe it will be good for France.

It seems that wealthier countries are picking up the burden of poorer ones against the will of the people. The smaller countries are being taken advantage of i.e. Ireland. The EU broke that country.

Germany is wealthy but bailing out everyone is gonna put them in the poor house. Something has to be done.

The America I grew up in was that you pulled yourself up from your bootstraps. Like playing an instrument if you want to be good and get paid you have to work for it. Like Videos, instruction books, Lessons; if you don't apply yourself all the help in the world is not going to make you a better musician. This also applies to the Congress, the President and the American people. Government should be there to help if you need it but you also need to apply yourselves and produce something in order to give back. The continual bailing out will run resources dry eventually.

I will say I have never liked any Political regardless of political affiliation. Some I have hated less than others but they all had my respect. It seems that President Trump is not resting on his laurels and applying himself unlike all of his predecessors since Kennedy. He is not a politician unlike Congress who seem to care more about themselves than their constituents.

In Colonial America, Americans were buying from Britain because it was cheaper until Congress levied Tariffs on imported goods. This allow them to build the great country America is. This was eroded by all these trade agreements which has become one sided in favor of other countries but America. I have family and friends that have lost their jobs to overseas leaving them no choice but to shop at Wal-Mart to buy the very items they once produce because they are working two to three jobs to make ends meet.

Like Britain I think our economies and people will fare better in the long run. The only one it is really hurting is Super Corporations. From a musicians view with will suck no more very cheap instruments and accessories from China and Mexico but with stable employment opportunities people will be able to afford to buy local. As one of my local and favorite breweries say "Think Global but drink Local" Or as my father who immigrated from China says "Buy local because the job you save might be your own"

Well, the plan right now is to adjust NAFTA to be an inconvenience to Mexico unless they comply. It is also being said that the US will start charging a 4% fee for all outgoing money transfers, of which Mexico get's tons of. They are trying to rig it so that Mexico has no option in the matter and that they have to give the US money in some form. At the worst, Mexico can try to wage war, but it won't be in their favor to do so. Trump is also talking about building a large wall border between us and Canada as well.

I really don't feel that we are as divided as we were in 2008. When Obama first won presidency, I thought for certain someone would assassinate him based on race alone. I don't feel that is the situation this time around. In my experience these last few months, only a few people have been actively outraged about this all. They may take to twitter and claim a gijad on Trump, but in normal conversation they aren't being burdened with the election.

They announced yesterday that Trump is starting a momentary cease of all incoming immigration from Libya, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and a couple of other countries. They are supposed to be coming up with a new way of approaching Visa interviews and background checks. I read that they also are putting a smaller cap on how many refugees we get.

I've done my devil's advocate bit so I'm pretty well done... I'm not a fan of NAFTA of the global economy, but globalism is a reality in the age of high speed transport and the internet and there's no turning back the clock. Isolationism is over and in that light a statement like "get rid of the UN, it doesn't work" seems a bit silly and even solipsistic. Anyway, cheers to your political discussion. I am going back to talking about guitars and synthesizers where thigns are black and white in tech terms and completely grey in artistic ones, a discussion that's much more to my liking and more interesting than the political debate in which I have pinions but am rarely sure of them. Politics is like navigating ina fog.
