Updates to guidelines - gear and artist submissions

It was time to make some updates to some community guidelines, specifically regarding:

Whether you're new to the community or a seasoned veteran, we think there are some important things in here.

🚨 I wanted to call something out - please refrain from removing descriptors from item/product pages! Lately we've noticed an influx of item edits, where a descriptor that is perfectly acceptable is being removed. Example:

  • Boss BD-2 Overdrive Pedal āž”ļø Boss BD-2

Please stop doing this! We will be rolling these changes back. If this doesn't stop, we may have to temporarily suspend the ability to edit items.

As the guidelines state, if you come across this on Equipboard:

  • āŒ BOSS HM-2W Heavy Metal | Premium Waza Craft Guitar Effect Pedal with Analog Circuitry | True Reproduction of the Legendary BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal | Standard & Custom Playing Modes | 5-Year Warranty

By all means, edit it to remove the marketing fluff. Otherwise, remember that at the end of the day Equipboard is partially a community and also partially a shopping site, and from a shopping/searching perspective, it's useful to have the title of the page be Boss BD-2 Overdrive Pedal and not just BD-2.

Please let me know if anything in the guidelines I linked above is unclear, or doesn't make sense, or you take issue with it, and we can discuss! 🤘

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Westwood
  • Fender '57 Custom Champ
  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

A little puzzled by what you're asking in regards to descriptors.

Tagged underneath items names on the edit page is the following: "Enter the product name as the manufacturer would write it. Don't be too verbose, e.g. Boss TR-2 Tremolo Guitar Effect Pedal" (imagine the double tildes to indicate a cross out)

Is what you're asking meant to be a shift away from that request?

GEAR:
  • Steinberg Cubase
  • RME Babyface Pro
  • Mackie HR824mk2 Studio Monitor

We actually just replaced that text with a link to the guidelines šŸ™‚

And yes, we are shifting away from that request. For a better music gear research/shopping/searching experience, we don't want to cut those "category words" from every single item on the site.

There are some items where of course it gets too verbose. If you came across Boss TR-2 Tremolo Guitar Effect Stompbox Tremolo Pedal that's a bit much.

We realize this request is a bit qualitative, but the gist of it is, leave the name alone if it happens to have a couple of "category words" e.g. Fender American Ultra II Telecaster Electric Guitar ... no need to remove "Electric Guitar."

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Westwood
  • Fender '57 Custom Champ
  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

Glad you replaced the text with a link to the guidelines! Everything you laid out makes sense.

Happy to comply =)

  • Mackie HR824mk2 Studio Monitor

Noted, this was a mistake I had made because I was following the old instructions quite literally. I appreciate the heads up.

GEAR:
  • Fender Jason Isbell Custom Telecaster
  • Rivera Chubster 40
  • Nobels ODR-1 Overdrive (1990s)

Ah OK , so Brand 1st then 2nd Product Number if there is one and then 3rd the type of item like Bass Guitar, Acoustic Guitar , Effect Pedal ... Year only on real important vintage stuff No Color but maybe Wood type on acoustic , maybe specifications like Gigsby or Floyd when it will avoid dublicates, get rid of the marketing propaganda in Discribtion... I got it , I think. Lets try there are 3 more item requests.

GEAR:
  • Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster Vintage Edition
  • Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV
  • EarthQuaker Devices Plumes
