What do you think about your new forum flair? :-D

We added some spice to this wonderful forum by adding some flair to your user profile. Under your avatar, we now show the first three pieces of gear from your Equipboard! It looks like this:

I think this will be a cool way to at-a-glance see what kind of a musician or gear-head someone is. You can re-order gear on your Equipboard if you want to change what goes into the first three coveted slots :-)

GEAR:
  • Fender Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar
  • Big Ear Pedals Woodcutter
  • HeadRush FRFR Go Portable Desktop Amplifier

This is rad, I like :) A hundred times slicker than all the other forums where ppl write an essay in their footer about every single thing they have. I like the "top 3 preview" idea. Makes me wanna check out people's full collections.

Better start clicking the hell out of that little arrow and get my favourite gear in the top three!

I do not like it. For me, it's the last 3 items I've added and I think it's kind of distracting. Typically I check out peoples' gear pages when I first see them post. I liked that we had just our names and avatars over there. So many other forums post junk under the avatar. They give special titles to members for different reasons, where they are from, how old they are, a quote, yadda yadda yadda.

I like all the other upgrades to the site like the articles set to the top of the activity page, but this particular addition just seems in the way to me.

yeah, what a pain

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

So why this desire to grow the forum? It's just a little bonus thing on the side, right? Maybe I'm alone, but I would focus efforts on the gear database, layout, navigation, and SEO. My 2¢

Well, this is my thinking.

TalkBass is pretty much the number 1 source for bass guitar and upright bass knowledge. More than anything else, it's success is due to the huge numbers of members. They come from all walks of life and backgrounds which allows for a wide base of knowledge. Someone can post a headstock they found in an attic with no logo and no tuners and someone will identify what brand and year it was. It's scary. Talkbass does what google don't.

The more members we have and the more reason for them to stick around, the greater our resources become. A member who joined last year may have listed everything he knows about his favorite musicians already. If he decides there's nothing to add or gain from sticking around, we lose his knowledge.

Your logic is good, and I have heard what you said. TalkBass is extremely useful. I have visited and gleaned answers a few times over the years ... after doing a Google search and having TalkBass appear in the search results.

So how do we search the Forum for past thread topics? to avoid duplicate threads?

No forum search yet. :(

In the meantime, don't worry too much about duplicate threads. The forums are still young enough that you probably won't be posting a duplicate topic, and we promise not to attack you if you do.

I PROMISE NO SUCH THING! Prepare for the law of tooth and claw! :)
