What was your first instrument purchase?

I'll try that with the Probuckers and if it goes to shit I'll just get new pick ups. I like the 59 set with braided 2 conductor cables so may go that route and then do the phasing and coil splits on my art120 because I liked it on the Les Paul when it came like that.

about the RG, I have wanted one for years and when I saw a good one like that for so cheap I just couldn't say no to it, the reason I'm considering changing pick ups is I hate EMGs which it has and the Edge 3 I've heard is utter shit but also heard if set up right they're amazing, so who knows? But yea, I love RGs and have never been able to afford one I like but this one is cheaper than it should be but they sold a limited edition tye dye fender strat 1 of 100 for £230 too, they just don't know much about guitars and have a Epiphone G400 pro for £130 or £150 I think which is stupid cheap too, though they aint expensive new anyway. Seen some rack gear sold in there before stupid cheap too, like mesa power amps for £500 LOL

When I have a amp head I shall gather up my gear and make a trade, got a few pedals to trade, a guitar and some other random shit around the house that I might just trade at the pawn shop for cash. Though the RG I just have to have really. I have a few pickups I don't want that I will trade too

I am not sure why anyone would be lsuting for an RG but okay.Is it at least an RG prestige?

I would get the LP fixed and take her too... take it all and get 1 serious guitar... the more brand name stuff, even low end brand name stuff, you take the less you will have to spend out of pocket or if you have a good amount in your wallet you can get a nice-ass guitar.... screw the pawnshop, go to a retail establishment known for its excellent used but non-vintage inventory. I don't have anything like that in Philly anymore, the big box stores pushed those places out, but other places I've lived had those sort of stalwart guitar traders. The UK is small, I am sure you can drive to a store known for lots of used stuff and fair trading practices. If you are going to buy "good enough" gear its unwise to be precious about any of it because it takes a lot of good enough gear to equal 1 piece of professional grade kit. Unless you have some serious income to play with you oughta be ready to dump everything you own to move up to the next guitar and amp when you're young. I am still not precious about most of my stuff and will sell and trade it at will. I have a few regrets her and there, but overall nothing major. Its mostly gear and guitars I have sold to deal with my marital issues.

I just love RGs, never played a bad one over the £450-£500 mark, great build quality and sound great but I'm not a shredder by any means at all, if I do solos its more blues or alt rock type thing but I love the feel of the RG necks etc. I just love them. I don't think I could trade the Les Paul, my fiance bought it for me but maybe one day, I don't know. I have a case I never use too wish I could trade in, made by Epiphone but at the moment I couldn't trade in that guitar, means too much to me, same with the art120 which my mum bought me, I did go to at one point but just couldn't go through with it. Sad in a way but I am very attached to both guitars. I'm sure you know what I mean? I just know if I did I would instantly regret it. My fiancee wants to get me a USA Jaguar HH or even a Kurt Cobain signature one day, keeps on saying that she will get me it one day, shes hoping for Christmas or my birthday next year. I totally agree about trading though. I am gunna have to start getting some professional equipment though, which leads me onto the Orange TH30, how is that amp? I understand Orange are very good amps and this talk of getting something worthwhile had me thinking today that if its in my price bracket just get it and not worry about effects or pickups and increase my budget by a fair bit, got £750 to spend on a head

never tried the TH30, if its like the AD30 its not bad. A fuzzier, Orange flavored AC30.

I have only ever felt precious about a handful of guitars and even one of those I let go when I needed cash. And they are all nice ass guitars. Decent Gibson, Fender, Carvin... I parted with my precious duo jet without blinking when it stopped serving my music needs and I needed money for Lucian as well as an 88 LP standard that everyone but me liked... a lovely seafoam green 50s strat, an older Japanese 62RI strat in sonic blue lacquer... MIJ paisley tele RI, aerodyne tele, a really cool Yamaha 335 clone from 85... I dunno, tons of guitars, I am forgetting lots.... I've sold and traded a Plexi, JMP superlead, two different JCM800s, a 900, piles of vintage Fender and Gibson amps that would make you cry to see go! Dumped my jimmy page model supro too when I got bored with her... I could go on and on. I would never sell my SG or my 62 ac30, I probably wouldn't dump the old Carvin because of sentimental value... I have come close to trading my strat to my buddy a few times but I always paude. I would probably dump her, but she's modded and beat to shit and not worth much to anyone but my friend.... I am not usually precious about isntruments. They're only tools. Iregret the reasons I sold my LP special that was a gift from my dad, but I would do it again if I needed to pay the rent in an emergency like that or to complete an awesome trade on a better guitar.... I am still bitter because it was my wife's fault I had to raise cash with only a few days notice... the sale was of no benefit to me and if I had screwed her over (which as it turns out is what she woulda done to me) I would still have that guitar.

I just don't get the RG for anything but shredding even though a lot of punk kids bashed them when I was a kid because they were cheap and the guy from suicidal tendencies had one. Is it a made in Japan one you got? Those are the only Ibanezes of the modern era worth a damn.

Firsy I got was piano

a Casio PT-80, Casio SA-20, later a violin and a cheap First Act acoustic guitar.

Yamaha DX-27 for $20.00. A bass player I jam with found it in a dumpster bin. I didn't ask questions beyond his asking price. lol I actually still have it, and have yet to replace the battery..However, It's probably the most solidly built keyboard I will ever own.

Sabian AAX cymbal to add to my fathers 80s Tama Superstar.

Red Squier Strat, October 1993, Panama!

My first instrument purchase was a Generation D tinwhistle whilst on holiday in the Hebrides as a child. Folk music was doubly uncool in the early 80's but through visits to family and friends there I discovered The Corries, Planxty and the whole Scottish/Irish traditional music scene. Each year I'd get another one in the set not realising that I'd only ever need the D whistle; The high G was useful only for playing to dogs and bats.

My first Harmonica was a Marine Band in E, chosen because someone told me that most blues is played in E... Only problem being it was was of course E in the diatonic major, not blues minor. I just kept buying harmonicas in random keys until I learned that it's the A harp that plays in E minor; in the 'cross harp' position. The E harmonica's still pretty much mint in a drawer somewhere - No one I know plays blues in B!

My first Guitar was a cheap Japanese Columbus Les Paul copy which I chose 'cos it looked like the LP on the first ZZtop album cover. I got nowhere with it and soon quit and sold it on. I don't miss the guitar but I regret not sticking at it. The Peavey Rage I got with it was a well regarded little 15w SS amp too; a fine recommendation from Rose Morris on London's famous Denmark Street.
