Your favorite albums released this year

What are some of your top albums this year?

I can't say for certain that the whole thing is going to be awesome, but I've been on the edge of my seat for Justin Townes Earle's new album. Champagne Corolla (his first single from the new album) is easily my favorite song of 2017, and I've been following him for a few years now and he's never let me down.

Pokey LaFarge just put out an album too, which I should probably get around to listening to since "Something In The Water" was excellent.

I feel the same way about new music most years as southpark felt about this election (if only they had known just how bad the US general election was going to become in the long run, but I digress)

however, I like many of the tunes (and some of the arrangements and mixes if not the overcompressed mastering that hurts my poor ears) off this appealing oddball Zaqary and his wife turned me on to...

and I'll give a runner up slot to Depeche Mode's 'Spirit' just for their persistence all these years since Wilder left.... and because they're fucking Depeche Mode and when they're phoning it in they still school almost everyone to turn on a synthesizer since. Sure the album lacks a track with a great vocal line, classic lyric and 1st rate arrangement, but I hear worse every time I'm subjected to top 40 radio.

Other than that I haven't heard a new record I liked enough to listen to more than once. Its a struggle tog et to the end a lot of the time when someone is pressuring me to check some of these records out. I have to sit on my hands not to press stop.

I am going to brave the 2 artists you mentioned as I have no clue who they are. Maybe I'll be surprised.

DUMB BLOOD by VANT, and there are probably others I'm forgetting. I feel like this year is gonna be lackluster, but last year was a great year.

They're worth checking out just for the novelty factor. They're both pretty unique in what they do.

None for this year.

Not yet for this year. But last year was Margareth Glaspy's debut album.

Humanz - Gorillaz

Procol Harum's Novum. Although they're not that progressive rock type of band they used to be, I still like them big time! It's an amazing blues record though!

What are your favourites from this album? :) I've been listening to it since it came out and to me it's a mixed bag of songs and collaborations. The production is not too good and the drumkits seem sort of generic, in my opinion. I'm a huge Gorillaz fan, so I have listened to all of their albums and B-sides. I know that it must be hard to live up to that high standard they have set for themselves :)

they were more like symphonic rock leaning towards Andrew Lloyd weber style braodway LOL... Salty Dog will always be their most interesting song

Emperor of Sand by Mastodon is easily by favorite album of the year so far. Still haven't fully listened to DAMN. or Humanz yet tho

I think Mastodon's greatest work was Linoleum Knife. When I first started getting into them, I went through their discography looking for more metal songs like that one and was disappointed they never actually made that kind of music.

2017 looks like it will never match last year. We had new Blink-182, new Descendents and Green Day last year (fine, the Green Day album was shit, but it was THERE) and we had new stuff from indie punk bands no one's ever heard of, like PUP. I rave about them a lot because they are so good.
