Best strings for an sg

I got a sg copy an wanted to know what type of slinky to use

Are you set on Ernie Ball Slinky?

GEAR:
  • Fender Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar
  • Big Ear Pedals Woodcutter
  • HeadRush FRFR Go Portable Desktop Amplifier

more or less if you know an better that's great too. LOL Hot Fuzz

It's great timing that you're asking this. We recently got through doing a big electric guitar string rundown, and picked our favorites. You know, the best strings are the ones that feel best to YOU at the end of the day, so I encourage that you experiment a bit. Having said that, we all need some guidance, so check out the ones we picked:

Best Electric Guitar Strings

There's a tradeoff between quality, lifespan, and cost. $11-12 is quite a bit to pay for a set of strings, but you might find (as we did) that it gets you the best sounding and most durable ones. Having said that, for most people out there $4-5 Ernie Ball Slinky and D'Addario XL are just fine.

This one just narrowly missed out on our top 5, but I really enjoyed Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinky strings.

If you're asking in terms of gauge, it totally depends, it's hard to recommend a gauge (unless I know a lot more about your playing style, how advanced you are, etc). That article I linked to has a write-up on how to think about selecting your string gauge.

Hope this helps :)

ps. yeah Hot Fuzz you nailed it, can't get enough of that gif lol

Thanks for advice and i love the Corneto trilogy

Generally, the strings with the most hype have disappointed me the most. I'm still looking for those perfect strings. The next ones I'm going to try out are Dunlop Stainless Steel Super Bright 40/120 5 string set. I bought a custom bass that was put together mostly from a Carvin Bass Kit. The owner did not remember what strings he last put on the bass and claimed he thought they were the strings that came with the kit. We will see someday.

I can tell you this from my experience.

Mediocre Strings

La Bellas, Ernie Ball Power Slinky, DR Marcus Millers, D'Addario XL Flex Steels

Most Disappointing

DR Hi-Beams, Blue Steels, Elixer Bronze, DR Red Devils

this is the silliest question... the best strings for a guitar are the strings you feel comfortable on. You are used to Ernie Slinkies? Stick with them. If you don't feel comfortable with the feel they sound like shit because you play like shit. Use what you like and set the guitar up to play well and sing with your preferred gauge and brand. If the guitar won't sing its the guitar's fault, not the strings. Get a better guitar then.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

I'll get a better Jim.... I mean, what?

Thanks I got Regular Slinky Strings I may also try Nickel Super Slinky Strings

I tend to put regular slinkies on my guitars because I am sued to them and play well on them.... are they the ebst? that's subjective. they fall short in many areas of more expensive options but the sound is adequate and the feel is what I am used to since they were my 1st set of electric string way back in the very early 90s. If it feels good then it is good. Your tone is as good as your performance and comfort is a priority.
