Earthquaker?

Im starting to grow my pedal board again and am looking for another reverb to go with my Holy Grail and I'm looking at the Earthquaker Devices Afterneath. My only issue is the price breaking that 200 dollar threshold and I'm just curious as to whether anyone has extensive experience with it or recommendations. I've listened to all the demos and feel it will be a good fit but i cannot find a store nearby that even stocks Earthquaker and on a side note my next two pedals are going to be a Jupiter Fuzz and Earthquaker Arrows if that helps give an idea of what my tastes are.

afterneath is cool, tried it in a store, but its an EFFECT... its not something that's worth investing in to use subtley. Its about synthy soundscapes from a guitar, not realistic ambiance or vintage spring or plate pizzang... it won't be appropriate in many styles of music, so invest the $200 knowng that it may be a once-in-a-blue pedal.

Another two I've been interested in is their Ghost Echo Reverb and Dispatch. I'm really liking the tones the guys from foals have and i saw Yannis their singer/lead guitarist has used Ghost Echo. They have that clean tone with heavy reverb/delay thats just about to break up similar to what I'm going for.

those fiols guys use so many effects at once, god knows when the earthquake stuff's engaged or how its being used, LOL... they are real pedal freaks

but the ghost echo is cool too, a little more subtle, but again an ambience effect that's not worth the price of admission if you aren't going to use it a lotat settings that really jump out

or at elast that's my .02, YMMV... I am not a huge fan of effects.... good for others, not always for me

I feel as if I tried a dispatch master delay but I can't remember any impressions of it so maybe I am wrong and I never tried one

I hope I've been helpful in general. You will probably like all of these effects but the amount of stage time they get in your band may make them a bad economic decision if you are on a budget....

i see where you're coming from. i on the other hand am all about a load of reverb and and delay an other effects, i've been getting into more stuff like foals, explosions in the sky and other bands that use a lot of effects on clean amps and our praise and worship group plays a lot of elevation and bethel who both have very layered, sythie sounds and guitarists who use a lot of ambient effects.

praise and worship stuff usually has a lot of space for that

I think sam ash chains carry EQD, go to a sam ash near you and try some stuff

or maybe its GC who ahs EQD, but its available in retail outlets to try

I know sweetwater does and theres are me a little over an hour from me, its just a matter of having a free day i can make a drive like that to check them out

get in touch with your inner Ferris Bueller and call out sick from work, man.... then go to work sick next time you're ill to make up for the deception

"cough, sorry boss, gotta stay home today because I have a highly contagious case of G.A.S. -- I don't want to give my coworkers pedalitis!"

for example, I've been working from home all week this week, but I am multitasking, playing ith my kid, doing equipboard and working on a record all at the same time.... I am really not beign less productive than I am at the office, but with no one watching me I can use the smart part of my brain for other tasks while the idiot part of my brain does my stupid day job work

  • Gibson SG Standard

thats honestly tempting and i hope i don't give anyone pedalitis its very expensive to treat, hopefully right after the holiday season and once my new amp is here which should be January, ill be able to make a day and pick up a new fuzz and and try out those pedals

Lots of ❤️ here for the Dispatch Master. That's my fav Earthquaker reverb pedal. Ahh man Sweetwater just ended their 15% off ALL EQD pedals. 😧

fwiw Amazon has it for $10 less.

i definitely need to give it a try.

Surprised nobody has offered Avalanche Run. Impressive and NEVER see them 2nd hand. A pedal people aren't getting rid of.

Here's a write up:

Product Description The Avalanche Run was developed with one goal in mind: to take the floating ambient tones of our Dispatch Master to the next level while still keeping it user friendly and refined. Taking you into the aural exploratorium without having to break open the user manual every time you want to open up your inner eye and get free is no easy task. We are using a high powered proprietary DSP platform to recreate all the characteristics of all our old favorite delay and reverb machines while still retaining a simple, yet flexible workspace. It has been a long time coming but well worth the wait! Enough bullshit, let’s talk about the damn pedal!

The Avalanche Run is a dreamy sonic discovery device with up to 2 seconds of delay time and a lush reverb. It features complete control over delay time, repeats, mix and voice (with the tone control), as well as control over the reverb length and mix. It can run in one of 3 different modes: Normal, Reverse and Swell. In “Normal” mode, the Avalanche Run functions as a straightforward delay and reverb. In “Reverse” mode, the delay line is in reverse and the reverb remains in normal mode. In “Swell” mode, the Avalanche Run reacts to your picking dynamics and adds a volume swell to the entire signal path much like manually raising and lowering the volume of your guitar.

The Avalanche Run features an expression jack that can be assigned to one of six different controls using the “EXP” selector switch. It also features Tap Tempo with six different ratios accessed via the “Ratio” selector switch. The Avalanche Run can also be run in “True Bypass” mode or “Buffered Bypass” mode for trails and features 5 different tail lengths including “Infinite” for lo-fi and continuously degrading pseudo-looping.

The Tap switch also has a few other cool secondary functions. While in Normal and Swell mode, you can send the Avalanche Run into self-oscillation by holding down the “Tap” footswitch. In Reverse, mode holding down the Tap switch will flip the delay back into Normal mode and return to Reverse mode once released!

Each and every Avalanche Run is completely assembled, wired and tested by total human beans in the tiny tundra town of Akron, Ohio.

Controls

Top Row Time- This controls the delay time and goes from 0ms to just under 2000ms. Repeats- Controls the regeneration of the delay, from zero repeats to near infinite. Tone- Controls the tone for the delay line only. Roll off highs to the left, roll off lows to the right and get a flat response in the middle.

Mix- The is the volume control for the delay line. This blends in the wet with dry until 1 o’clock, 1 o’clock to 3 o’clock boosts the wet signal over the dry and 3 o’clock up brings down dry until it is fully wet when all the way up.

Bottom Row Expression Jack Assign Switch- Use this switch to map the expression jack to one of the assigned controls.

• Decay- Controls the reverb decay length
• R Mix- Controls the reverb mix
• Time- This takes over for the delay time control and is DRASTICALLY different than the interface control. Using the expression pedal to control the time will give you all kinds of wild effects that can not be achieved by turning the knob.
• Repeats- Controls the delay repeats
• D Mix- Controls the delay mix
• Toggle- This takes over for the toggle switch and will cross fade from forward delay in heel down position to reversedelay in toe down position.

Decay- Controls the decay length of the reverb, short decay counterclockwise, long cavernous decay clockwise.

Mix- This is the volume control for the reverb. Blends in the wet with dry until 1 O’clock, 1 O’clock to 3 O’clock boosts the wet signal over the dry and 3 O’clock up brings down dry until it is fully wet when all the way up.

Ratio Selector Switch- Selects delay subdivisions when time is set by the “Tap” switch.

• 1/1- Quarter Note
• 3/4- Dotted 8th
• 2/3- Quarter Note Triplet
• 1/2- 8th Note
• 1/3- 8th Note Triplet
• 1/4- 16th Note

Toggle Switch (Mode Selector) Both- This is the “standard” delay and reverb mode Reverse- This is reverse delay mode with “standard” reverb Swell- This is the volume swell mode

Oh, the Earthquaker...awesome pedals, weird shit. I have had an opportunity of trying the Rainbow Machine. Although it has some uses, it reminds me of a DigiTech Space Station - it has a lot of things to it, as well as a lot of different effects, but hardly any of them are usable, as far as I've come to a conclusion.

Ahh... err... urgh... The Rainbow Machine!!!! This will be the pedal people cringe at the recollection of anyone ever mentions EQD. I am sure in a few years they will be recognised across the board as innovators of their craft. I am kinda glad to see that someone has tried one. This being said, I would never buy a flanger or phaser based on online reviews. Used in moderation, modulation is delicious. Just because something has a dial, doesn't mean you need to dime it!. A swirl or a warble enhance a song, a spasmodic seizure inducing staccato centrifugal pulse struggles to find a place in a song. A silent nod to the lower parameters of the new breed of pedals!

0:25 <3, this is why im getting a avalanche run.

I had my eyes on the afterneath too tho, such a sick epic verb and I could see myself using it on some melodic hits over a dark subby techno track, or during break downs as a foundation for the rest of the melodics.

synths running thru guitar effects and/or amplifiers are the bomb

oh, and apologie to the OP, I thought I tried the disaster transport, err, I mean the dispatch master but I am pretty sure after Whorse's post that I had it mixed up with the avalanche run... these crazy names, man, they all sound the same... like I was thinking dispatch master, typed disaster transport and argh! at least with boss the names were just like Boss Reverb or Boss Digitl Delay.... the effects weren't as cool but they were usually easy to keeps traight in your head other than silliness like the gonkulator and slow gear

Surprised nobody has offered Avalanche Run.

"My only issue is the price breaking that 200 dollar threshold"

Looks like budget is an issue :/

Speaking of reverbs, I've been eyeing the Caroline Meteore. Pretty cool little pedal that can still touch some subtle reverbs if needed. Anyways, I couldn't profess because no store has Earthquakers around me. Anyways, maybe take a gander at it if you'd like, Blake.

ill definitely give it a look if i get the chance I'm always open to recommendations and trying something new

About 2 years later... I'd just like to add something to Jim's statement regarding the Afterneath : I used to think the same : the Afterneath is an ambience machine and can't be used subtly. BUT who barges in but Joe Barresi doing a studio tour a while ago on Youtube ! And he says he uses the Afterneath regularly on vocals ! I've tried it with a friend's Afterneath, and it definitely fits vocals well without becoming too crazy... Not surprised to hear it can sit well in a mix.

I just meant on stage in front of an amplifier... I use my earthquaker verbs all the time for mixing.
