New Gear Day

Nothing to write home about but always fun to pick up some fresh gear :)

I've been picking up the acoustic a lot around the house, and tuning up using this pretty nice app called Guitar Tuna. However I like the idea of a clip-on tuner. I recently spent some time testing the TC Electronic PolyTune 2 and was super impressed, I read the PolyTune Clip is basically just that same pedal in clip form, so I'll give it a try.

Most of the time... I use YouTube tuners :)

Hah I used to as well! I would just do a search in YT for "guitar tuner" and used the first video that came up. Half the time it would play a 30 second ad before which got super annoying! Then I switched to that free Guitar Tuna app, but as much as I like it it still requires my phone by my side, unlock it, fire up the app, etc.

These clip-on tuners are great. I tested out a Snark, great value, good and cheap. The PolyTune Clip is pricier but the look & feel and functionality is a little more premium :)

in a pinch the free Martin tuner app works great, even on my cheap phone

if I didn't have an original snark I would get the polytune clip, it looks way better than a regular snark.... the trouble with these clip-ons is I always misplace them, with so many guitar cases around if I take one with me somewhere it takes me forevr to figure out what case its in. A lot of times its faster to wire up the polytune pedal for electric or to open that Martin app

Used to use GuitarTuna a lot, but I found a better alternative. Some new app came up called insTuner. No idea how, but it tracks better than GuitarTuna and shows you the octave range. It's chromatic, free, even has a tone generator which I thought was nice.

Do you always default to just standard orange Dunlop picks, or you actually like those especially?

Ok I will check out insTuner. I like them especially, the .6mm are my go-to! When they're brand new I love how they feel, just the right amount of grip!

I have a friend who uses 10mm an puts skateboard grip tape on both sides. Works awesome.
