Just got the urge to share. I've always LOVED Edge's tone in this song, specifically this live version. I'm not even a huge U2 fan, but this one makes it move for me. Skip to the solo if you're in a hurry.

prettys tandard.... sounds like a good strat into a cranked small tweed with some subtle effects and maybe a little push at the front end from a tuebscreamer, SD9 or even just the gain boost from one of his delay units could do it depending on where he has the single tone cotnrols et on the amp(s).... probably Edge's tremolux, deluxe, harvard or a mixture of them. An AC30 can do that with a strat too, but not on the top boost channel, not enough low mids there, but the normal channel does that to a strat too. SOunds more like a 2x6V6 tweed though.
