This is wild. The re-contouring of the body is seriously nice. Did you custom-cut those pickguards too?
The pickguard is custom cut as well. So, this guitar has a bit of a backstory. My dad was in a band when I was a kid with a guitar player who played a guitar that looked just like this. I grew up, learned how to play guitar and this guitar lingered in my mind. I was like, "What the heck was that thing?" My dad and that guitar player reconnected years later and I was able to ask him about it. He was like, "Oh. The oil paint guitar I used to play? That was actually my brother's. He modified it from an old Ibanez Roadstar." I offered to buy it, but it wasn't going to happen, so I made the outrageous request of: "If I were to track down the same model Ibanez Roadstar it started out as, could I pay you to make me a clone?" I was stunned when he agreed! I started out my search to figure out which Roadstar it started out as. Finally, I stumbled across the RS335 and I could just feel it was the correct one. I knew it. I bought it on eBay and played it stock for about 6 months before I sent it off for the customization which took about a year. Mine is just airbrushed, so it kind of lacks the cool texture of the original, but I am very happy with it, and it's kind of part of my identity at this point. My best playing guitar hands down.
You know, you look at this guitar, and you know there has to be a story behind it... but your tale exceeded all expectations. Outstanding :)
