I love the adjective "fully professional"
We still had full professionalism in 84. Fine times.

I verified everything I could identify visually. My Spanish is so rusty I had no idea what he was saying in the video... there's a fab filter entry where he's in front of what appears to be a lovely J or K series (or a really big AWS? I'm mostly experienced with the E and Gs) and I'm thinking "why would you be using fab filter when SSL channel eq is fully parametric and totally vibin'especially the 21st century desks with the E/G switch. I guess the filters are less versatile but I'll take an e series EQ over a plugin every day if the week... MADNESS!

No Livid CNTRL:R? Codanova VMX v64!
A lot of us would get pretty depressed (like me) if they had no solar exposure for weeks at a time.
And you better take some vitamin D supplements. Even goth chicks need sunlight.

what’s your favourite synth you own?
Excellent choice! I'm more of a Modal guy but only because ASM wouldn't give me a discounted hydrsynth.

in non-modular stuff, a soundtracs topaz/solo, soundcraft ghost, Allen & Heath GS3200/GS24 etc are more or less the same thing internally with some different interface stuff going on, different form factors, model specific mic preamp topology and differing power supply quality. Think different variations of a souped up mackie 8bus, just as hard to service channels and busses but better designed and better specced all around. Audient isn't modular but its a distinct cut above for EQ flexibility, sound and serviceability (channel buckets that are top accessible rather than underside accessed). Soundtracs/Soundcraft/A&H recording desks are also old and may need maintenance although my topaz has been running strong apart from channels 31 and 32 on the meterbridge being sticky from bad comparators (I think). The channels are loaded with TL072s and TL074s while the summing is from 5532s split up so each half of the dual opamp is handling one side of a stereo signal.... crosstalk is surprisingly low though. All of these budget brit desks are fully inline but only the A&H has short faders, the others have knobs for the tape/monitor returns. Short faders (monitor volume pots) can sum only to the master bus for mix down although this can be hijacked with clever patching to an aux return if that's your bag. All mono aux sends, stereo returns routable to corresponding numbered bus pair or master bus. Nothing fancy but easy to understand. A stock topaz has a lot of -10 ins and outs and may need to have some jumpers soldered depending on your use case. All of them have a number of unbalanced connections but in a small studio this is not such a big deal. If space isn't an issue there are better mixers for the same money that provide similar facilities and equal or better sound. If 24 to 32 channels aren't important and say 16 not inline is enough there are way better options that sound better, are more serviceable and provide similar features. If you're looking at something, ask me.
I'm only discussing in-line mixers because we started there, if you're looking for something where all monitoring is DAW, tell me. I use my in-line desk differently for expanded routing, but if you just want a mixer to mix some shit like a live show, dang, there's a lot of options. Broadcast consoles are a great place to look for limited mic preamps, mainly line inputs, routing aplenty and great sound quality. The mix minus feature on broadcast gear can be cool sometimes for live performance, you would be surprised. Kinda between sound reinforcement and in-line recording in topology.

Did Add a wrong Logo to a Brand
Premier NY was a subsidiary of Multivox and they made some very stylish looking tube amps. The Multivox synth and fx company is a later 70s brand to the best of my knowledge. I could be wrong though, it seems weird because Multivox was making solid state premier amps into the 70s.
UPDATE: multivox made the synths and fx as well as premier guitars and amps, they were the manufacturing wing of the peter working music company. How should we organize this?

New Artists Signature Fender Guitar Models
Fender already has 2 Cobain models currently in production, but it IS odd that they've never attempted a Cobain Strat, given how often he was seen on TV and in the studio with them. People have been making and selling custom Vandalism and K-Strat replicas for years now. It honestly blows my mind how popular Nirvana is with people who were born well after Cobain died. He's been the most popular Artist on Equipboard for years now.
Ditto. After his death Nirvana's popularity waned yearly, at least where I lived. Then I started seeing a lot of smiley face tees on young kids about 15 years ago. It's really surprising.

I'm a huge Richard Lloyd fan, he might be a looney but he'sone if the most rapping loonies to ever wield a fender... while we're at it I want a robert quine strat and Gibson could throw in a cheetah chrome LP or SG... although I think both of them played stock models. Now I'm just punk rock virtue signaling.

Oh sorry, misread that. Pre-coffee posting is bad posting. He should have one and there should be a Richard Lloyd strat too :( when I saw them they both were using lipsticks in strats through ac30 reissues. Killer tone.
I thought Shields had a signature model for awhile? Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm impressed that people care about Television enough that Tom Verlaine got a signature jazzy. As a kid only me and a few friends knew about them and not all of those friends liked them.

Suggestions for redesigning our Product Pages
- The SAVE button has always seemed kind of odd to me. I only ever want to do 2 things 1. Add to my Wishlist or 2. Add to my Equipboard. Every time I go to add something to my board or wishlist, I have to remind myself that the "Save" button with the bookmark icon is where this action lives. Having 2 buttons here, instead of one, would be better, I think: one dedicated to Wishlist and one for adding to your own Equipboard. For users who haven't signed up yet, this reinforces how Equipboard works... on top of the uniqueness of getting to build your own EB, the Wishlist here is rad too: on Amazon you can't build a wishlist with vintage or direct-only stuff, only new stuff... on Reverb(dot)com the favorites are more for keeping tabs on items you might want to put in an offer on... so EB is my one true gear Wishlist.
This is such a good idea, it should be implemented immediately.

Vaguery devalues actual art. The scheme has been in motion for so long that it's too late. A cat grooming video has the same cultural value as a good song or a solid student film... it could be more lucrative too. If labels like Factory or SubPop pioneered hyping their labels over their acts, ir MTV was cooler than the sum of its video catalogue in my youth, platforms like youtube have gone further. I haven't had enough coffee to make more sense, but you can see what went on here between my teen years and now... it's been a scary intersection of corporate branding, art, post-Warhol "celebrity" and commerce. Some very smart tech industry guys, marketing execs and MBAs have really exploited existing trends through technology to create a cluttered cultural landscape that looks like a desert from a distance. There's nothing anyone can do about it, not even the people who created the situation.

Well the featured review could be the one with the most likes I guess... there are flaws to this approach but it's a thought. The descriptive stuff and links, then a featured review followed by the up artists who use the gear would be a great 'at a glance' item home page with the ability to deep dive if there's more info...

Reviews first. Just bgg because an artist is spotted with something doesn't mean they turn it on frequently.

It's a fair point though. Lots of industries are going through this right now. In sports like running, running influencers who can barely finish a race are often getting way bigger contracts from Nike and Adidas than dedicated, talented athletes who consistently finish top 5... dedicating yourself to your sport doesn't leave much time for building a lucrative and engaged audience on Instagram.

what’s your favourite synth you own?
Darn, I was hoping you'd know something about them...
;)
(thanks!)
I feel kinda embarrassed now. I'm such a geek.
If you want a mackie 8bus but with sound quality get a topaz project8 and big line level interface(s). It'll run rings around your onyx but will sound and feel instantly familiar.

what’s your favourite synth you own?
Same exact mixer. Different colored knobs. I think the 24 channel topaz project 8 has a slightly more robust PSU than the the 24 channel topaz with pastel knobs, but the 32s are the same. I think a few caps are higher voltage in the project 8 but the supplied schematics don't indicate thus. The project 8 is newer and may not require immediate service. Incidentally, the solo series are also identical except for the modular construction and semi-discrete microphone preamps (topazes are equipped with an SSM preamp-on-a-chip, the solo pres are probably just a different flavor of so-so, like most soundcrafts). I was interested in a solo midi but they're bigger and there was a 32 channel topaz project 8 with meter bridge for sale 30 minutes from my house so that's what happened.
The topaz is a first rate budget desk when you need high channel count and routing capabilities that fit in a shoebox control room. If I move into a bigger space I'm going to be looking at something 32:8 inline that's better constructed

My soundtracs console came with a spiral bound manual and I seem to recall SSL manuals used to be spiral bound... certainly G series was, at least 1 of the manuals (there were several lol)

what’s your favourite synth you own?
Remember when all manuals over 10 pages were spiral bound our square bound like a book? Even my 80s dbx 160 manual is in really nice stock despite being saddle bound. Those old manuals contained every tech spec you could ask for, a block diagram and in many cases there were schematics and a full parts list.

Aphex Twin + TR-909 + TB-303 Live
Remember being young enough to seriously consider casting a vote for the guy from dead kennedies? I must've entertained the idea for a good 10 minutes. Different world, different me.
Thinking about window locker took me down this really dark train of thought. Did the 90s spell the doom of the music industry as much as file sharing? Inflated prices on CDs really created the profit marginsthat caused the labels to hand the lunatics (and I mean that in the most complimentary way) the keys to the asylum for awhile...

Aphex Twin + TR-909 + TB-303 Live
That was like 99 right? I think I saw the video for the title track at a psychadelic house party (this was back when someone would ""VJ" putting trippy VHS tapes on at art school parties to set the mood) before hearing the album too. Videos were still a big deal. Really high production value for music videos was only a decade old, and really trippy stuff even less old... and then those videos were only for the lucky grunge bands and Trent Teznor lol. A video like that for this weird, seemingly noncommercial dance music was unheard of. Turned out to be one of the most influential records of the decade, who saw that coming? Remember when MTV was all grainy shots of dudes playing rock instruments in the snow or madonna stripping? The 90s were a sea change in media. It felt like twin peaks opened the door to every weirdo with a dream. 1999 was really the last gasp before all the weirdos were pushed back underground and their ideas were watered down for general consumption. As a young man, even at the end of the century I really thought that sort if festivity was going to see corporate funding and have a shot at mass exposure from then on. Damn was I naive pulling into my 20s.

Also, to clarify, the UA Dream was the only gear used! While I love a good tube amp, I went all digital over a year ago and really haven't used an amp (unless it was backlined) since!
Traitor... J/k
As for the rest, I use an Aston Origin microphone, my iPhone 14 as my main camera, a Focusrite Scarlett Interface, Reaper as my DAW to record the tracks and voice-over,
Thise Astons look interesting. Is the origin fixed or multipattern?

Grandfather's album Why'd I Try, which was mixed and produced by Albini,
Everyone keeps calling him a producer or saying albums were produced by Steve Albini. Man he woulda hated that.

No no, I met him and corresponded with him a little. Knew him? Nah.
Anyone could approach him and if that person was coming from a place he related to then he would be really generous with his time.
Anyone worth talking to is approachable. Worst case scenario? They blow you off. If they act that way to a fan or colleague then they're not worth talking to anyway. You have to be unafraid to bug people... and make good conversation.

Who All Plays Bass with 3-Finger Plucking Techniques?
You mentioned Matteo Mancuso, a guitarist, and if you're open to looking at guitarist for 3-finger inspiration, why not dive into classical guitar, where 3-fingers, plus thumb is the standard? You'd have another century's worth of material to consume.
That's how I initially learned guitar and it definitely informs my electric bass playing... but it's really just the standard for chords and notation that overlaps on the staff, the 2 finger walking method of bass is used in classical guitar for one line phrases because that's what's used for pizzicato 1 line phrases on all 4 instruments if the classical string section. That's where the jazz upright style comes from, it even spawned the term "walking bassline."
My attitude toward electric bass is that every technique from the string quartet and classical guitar is fair game... and then some. Carol Kaye showed how great a fender heavy can sound on bass when applied with intent throughout one of the most storied careers in pop music. James Jamerson used 1 fonger a lot of the time. There's nothing wrong with favoring one approach but I always thought it was best to be flexible in order to produce a tone and groove that best suits each song. Each technique has a different timbrality and a strong influence on your relationship to the beat.
