Forget what some people say about Boss pedals.

They are, and they will always be, one of the best pedal manufacturers in the world. Like every company out there, they produce a lot of crappy pedals. But this one is an exception.

I was out there looking for a reverb pedal for quite sometime. But i was avoiding stuff like Strymon, Empress and Eventide. I even considered Neunaber and MXR but I could bring my self to spend over 200€ on a reverb pedal.

I went to a local music shop to see what they had and try a few options. I always thought I would go for a TC Electronic Hall of Fame. Maybe even a Digitech Polara. But never, ever, have I thought I would go for a Boss Reverb pedal, weather it'd be an RV-5 or and RV-6.

I was let down by the TC HOF, but was very, VERY, surprised when I played the RV-6: great reverb, that can compete with other higher priced reverbs.

• The Modulation reverb is an interesting mode, and I can definitely see myself using this in the studio for some ambient stuff.

• The Spring reverb is cool and all, and maybe it's because it's not my cup of tea, but I couldn't find it anywhere decent, felt too digital, too fake for my ears.

• The Plate and Hall reverbs are spot on. It can be subtle at lower Time settings, and it can be quite aggressive but still very musical at higher settings. It does not get the sound too washed in effect. (you can still use the output B to get JUST the wet signal, and blend in the two outputs, in the studio, or send them through two different amps, in a live setting.

• The Room reverb is very well designed. It can produce a subtle "presence" to the sound, and even if you "crank" the pedal, it does not get out of control.

• The Dynamic mode is quite interesting and, honestly, one of the reasons I bought this pedal. It is very musical, and responds very well to your playing. It sits well in the mix and can fill the space around without feeling like "too much". One of the modes I use the most.

• The Shimmer mode was one of the new additions to the RV family, and it is awesome! it just makes me feel like doing swells and ambient/atmospheric stuff all day long. You can adjust the brightness of the octave voicing with tone, so it can me more subtle and suit your needs better.

• The +Delay mode is ok. I fool around with it, in juncture with my Ibanez DE7 to produce some ping-pong-ish guitars. it is a great delay if you need one, but I don't see myself using this mode, other than to making some experiences, since I have a delay pedal in my board already.

All in all, it is a great Reverb unit. Within its price range, It is safe to say that it is one, if not, the best bet you can make. You won't regret it.

Great Preamp for studio and live use

I bought this with the intent of making my life easier when it comes to recording guitar. But found out it also made my life easier live-wise: I now run an ampless guitar rig, with my dirt boxes before the unit, and my mod/time-based effects in the loop, running straight into the mixer/PA. It has 2 12AX7 so it still ads some warmth, and also bite, to the sound.

It has 2 Channels: Clean and Dirty. And 2 more subChannels in the Dirt: Crunch and Lead. So you have everything you need, for every kind of situation, in one compact box. The Cleans are super clean, sparkly and transparent, my chorus and reverb pedals love it. The Dirt channel can go from a JTM45 type of saturated overdrive, to close to a JCM800 type of gain. Very tight and very transparent, as well.

Overall, it's a great box to have around the studio and live, even if you use an amplifier live, this can still save your ass if your amp breaks down. And you won't even notice the difference.

Great bang for the buck

I have an early 90's Peavey Classic 50, Made in USA, and its a great amp! I play mostly clean, jazzy stuff, with mainly modulation effects, but it can handle overdrive/distortion and fuzz stompboxes very very well. I'm not very fond of the lead channel. It's too compressed for my taste, but it's an excellent thing to have in the studio, for when you need something like that. To sum it up, it's a very 80's kind of distortion, american-voiced. It's a very versatile amplifier. I love it. And although it has 4 10" Speakers, it's LOUD, but it's not HARSH LOUD, like the 212 version I tried.

If you can grab one, do it. You won't regret it
