Great for rhythm guitar
Whereas the Tube Screamer is excellent for single coil-equipped guitars, I've found that I prefer the SD-1 for my humbucker-equipped guitars. This pedal is ideal for chunking up the rhythm sounds and works best on low-gain, high-volume settings.

that's because its a TS9 tubescreamer with a different mid emphasis and asymmetrical clipping. 98% the same pedals otherwise. The TS808 was a 2nd generation OD1 with a lower centered mid emphasis, a tone control and symmetrical clipping. Try the SD1 dirty boost trick into a superlead turned way up and you'll feel like you're in RATT or Quiet Riot.
Versatile
It's not the warmest overdrive pedal in the world, but it's hard to beat its versatility. Both the bass and treble controls actively boost their respective frequencies, and the pedal already has a ton of output on tap. It can go anywhere from clean boost to full-on 80s distortion, which is pretty neat. Excellent build quality. You'll need to do a fair amount of tweaking to get the pedal's settings exactly where you want them, but it's versatile enough to get you where you need to be.
Supremely versatile pedal
This pedal runs the whole gamut of chorus sounds, from old-school, lo-fi BBD sounds, to contemporary metal sounds. With an expansive range of delay times, depth options, a wet/dry balance knob, and a wide range of speed settings, you can achieve most chorus and pitch vibrato sounds with some careful knob selection. You can even get so low-resonance flanger sounds with certain time settings. There is some high-end loss, but you can compensate for much of it by boosting the signal using the boost knob. Ultimately, this is a highly versatile tweaker's pedal. Note: it is monoaural. If you're looking for a stereo chorus pedal, look elsewhere.
