This compressor is great! But I'll be frank; I am still figuring it out. Compression on guitar, for me, is fairly straight forward, but as for bass, there are many possibilities I have to consider. In my projects, there are a lot of builds and shaping of phrases, so I have to be a very dynamic player. My articulation varies drastically too so of course, I change my compression settings all time. I will say, this pedal definitely boots my tone. However, sometimes I get too much of that 'treble pop' and I am working on smoothing it. I know this pedal can get it but I just need to sit down with it more and get an overall setting that I am more content with.
It's great because it works and reacts quickly, AND it's true bypass. not much else to say about it.
If I had to use one adjective to describe this amp, it would be 'sparkly'. The way it projects the high frequencies is not harsh by any means (in regards to the clean channel, I mean). I mainly keep it on the clean channel since I have a pedal board, but of course, it has that nice-thick-vox fuzz if you want it. Since it's a British amp, you have to alternate the level of the channel knobs in order to attain the clean/fuzz sound you want. For example, the channel knob needs to be higher than the master knob in order to get any fuzz but vice versa if you just want to keep it clean and still use the simple eq. I love the 'brilliance' switch, and I usually flip it with electrics that have humbuckers. As for my tele, I stay on the warmer side of things with this amp. My only qualm with it is how heavy it is. This amp is inconveniently heavy and the handles are awkwardly placed. I would and still am considering casters for it when I start gigging for my solo project.
This is my first reverb that I spent over 200 for, and it was worth the purchase. It's nothing like Strymon's Blue Sky or Eventide's Space, but I think it certainly has its pros over those top notch reverb. For instance, the 'gold plate' setting is really a clean reverb and having a 'dynamix' knob means you can control when the reverb takes affect when your playing, allowing you to eliminate any possible muddiness or clipping. The 'spring' is alright on it, although I do not normally prefer that mode for my playing style so I mostly switch between the 'hall', 'plate', and 'room' settings. I feel that this pedal really nails the 'small room' echo. It makes me think that my guitar is coming from a different room of my house! The 'hall' is not blue sky lush, but it can clean and epic feeling and I cannot find anything to complain about it other than what it's not. Really, a wonderful studio reverb.
I'm not a fuzz or a distortion type of guy. I am all about clarity and transparency. I have looked into many overdrives; JHS Moonshine, Walrus Audio Mayflower, EHX English Muffn, Ibanez Tubescreamer, and Maxon's vintage tubescreamer. This match my personal preferences the most, and ironically, it was the cheapest option out of the list. It's punch yet a controllable, most importantly, transparent, and you can easily get some nice "meat" just by turning the gain past the 2 o'clock range. I prefer the 'modified' mode because it has more low-end than the 'classic'.
if you like thick, warm reverb, this is a fantastic yet affordable option. Those who are familiar with genres like post-rock and shoe gaze would get the best kick out of it. Love the 'shimmer' and the 'shine' modes on this pedal. It's no blue sky but it's a great second option, and nice to stack on top of other reverbs too.
The action on this acoustic is to dream for. While many Martins and Taylors have the driving, gritty tone, my hummingbird has a great balance between bright and dark tonalities. Personally, this is the ideal fingerpicking acoustic, and like I said to start with, the action is superb. I play right at the edge of the sound hole towards the saddle to get a clear, yet warm-enveloping tone. I have written countless songs on this instrument because it is certainly inspiring just to own it and look at it. This guitar will last me a lifetime.
