It's been a while guys! After highschool ended for me and my school provided Chromebook was taken back from me, I didn't really have a way to get on Equipboard, but I've recently started college, and with it, obtained a new laptop of my own, so I'm happy to get back into helping build the best online resource for gear artists use!

Something like a Bogner Ecstasy Overdrive or even just a cranked up Boss DS-1 would be good, maybe even throw in a good detune pedal for some added low end. Or you could go with an Electro Harmonix Metal Muff is just an all around good pedal (heavy distortion with some fuzz on top), and a couple of notable doom artists have used them.

Also an Orange amp will definitely give you the tone you're looking for, maybe an OR 100 or 15, maybe even a Rockerverb MK II. Hell, a really cool choice would be a Tiny Terror or a Dark Terror.

Something like a LTD EC-401 or a Schecter Solo would be good choices for a nice chunky Les Paul rhythm guitar, an Epiphone 1984 Explorer would be another solid choice too. They're all under $1000 and come with third party pickups like EMG.

I'd like to hear who you guys think is the best, or one of the best. My pick has to go to James Hetfield of the mighty Metallica.

I remember my Dad telling me about this when they started letting people sign up when the program was still being worked on, as he is a MUCH bigger fan of A7X then I am and pays more attention to news concerning them then I do. Anyways, I signed up for free on the website yesterday, and I was completely blown away that instruction like this is available for free. The lessons include a big sheet music page that has both traditional notation AND tab versions of the lesson, which are accompanied by a video feed of guitair GOD Brian Haner Sr. (aka Papa Gates) who is Synester Gates' father and supierior in exceptional guitar playing, sitting down in a very Carl Brown-esque (GuitarLessons365 on Youtube) set presenting the lesson to the student, going into great detail about the logistics behind every scale, chord, and picking technique that are available from the three different levels of difficulty, with each level containing 36 different lessons adding up to 114 in total, all for free. Next thing I know, I'm practicing the Major and C Major Scales and having fun doing it, all with the first 9 lessons.

But the school isn't just for beginners, there lies a fourth section called "Syn's Etudes", which are a series of challenging exercises from the man himself, covering Alternate Picking, Economy Picking, Legato, Sweep Picking, and Tapping, each with 10 levels of difficulty adding up to 50 exercises in total, that any player, no matter how skilled, could benefit from. All for free.

So what I'm asking you guys on Equipboard to do is to check out this awesome program and get better from it, whether you're a beginner like me, or a seasoned shred master. We all have something to gain from this.

Greetings everybody! My name is Will and I'm from West Virginia (I'm not a redneck though so don't worry lol) I've been on the site for a little over a month now, and I love it! I can say without a doubt in my mind that any and all knowledge of guitar gear that I have accrued over the past month has come from browsing the plethora of information that is available on my favorite guitarists' boards (James Hetfield, Brent Hinds, Synester Gates, and Adam Jones to name a few), as well as doing my own research to try and flesh out the boards of some lesser known players like John Mortimer (Holocaust) and John Christ (Danzig). I've also been able to narrow the search for my first set of gig/studio worthy gear down from $2k+ equipment to some much more affordable and practical choices that are just as good as the premo stuff (for now) with the help of jimmi and a fellow named Dave.

Bottom line is, I love this website and it's community that I hope to stay a part of for years to come.

I'd like to ask any and all artists on the site to come to this forum and make me an offer for an original band logo/font. My band's name is "Fury" like the movie about the tank with the same name, and we play mostly classic Metallica styled heavy metal, so the whole sleek and sharp metallic looking logo would be pretty cool, but the crudely painted on version you see on the tank itself would also work. Of course, don't make it look exactly like the already existing ones, and I'd like to see you get creative and design a couple that aren't the ones I've listed. The more the merrier I always say.

I'm willing to compensate you for your work, and having a portfolio of past artworks/designs for me to look at before you get started would also be nice.

Actually, after a doing a little more research I've come to find that a VOX just isn't the style of amp I'm after. The Dark/Brent Hinds Terror is still what im probably what I'm going to go with, just because they're designed with high gain metal riffs in mind.

I think that everybody sorta forgets about Adam Jones from Tool, he has a completely unique sound that I haven't heard anybody else try to copy, because they can't.

Hmmmmmm..... Well it seems to me that with the info you've given me, my best option is still gonna be either the Brent Hinds Terror or the Dark Terror with the PPC112. Everything else seems to be a bit out of my league price wise, at least for now. But thanks for the history lesson man seems like everybody is unoriginal lol.

So, I'm a teenage metalhead with a part time job that gets me about $90-$100 every week, but I'm applying for a new job that'll start out at about $10.50 an hour, and on top of that, my last year of highschool is almost up so I might pick up some extra hours over the summer. I've been practicing guitar seriously ever since i got my LTD EX-50 this past christmas with more of a focus on being a downpicking rythym player. On a scale of 1-10 for playing efficiency I'd put myself at a 3 because even though I'm mostly inexpierienced, I've gotten pretty good at playing both the clean and dirty parts of my main practice songs, save for the solos (Sanitarium, Fade to Black, Seek and Destroy, Bleeding Me, One [except for the crazy stuff at the end], as well as the Holocaust songs that I can find tabs for).

With all that being said, I've been growing tired of my current amp, a 50W Fender Mustang V.2 (feel free to check my opinion of it on my board), mostly due to how annoying it is to set up my gear to play, which involves getting out my 10-year old 5 lb laptop that I have to plug in because the battery went bad within a week of me getting it all those years ago. But the real reason for this post is to ask all you gear gurus out there for wchich amp you would reccomend me getting as a gig worthy alternative for a Diezel or a Mesa Boogie. Im definitely willing to save up at least $1,000 - $1,500 to get a nice head and cab (2x12 at least). I've had my eye on the terror series from Orange, especially the Brent Hinds signature because of the channel switching and the not too ridiculous price tag of $750, with another extra $600 for a PPC212 120W cab coming out at about $1,400.

What do you guys think? Sorry for typing your eyes out but I like writing lol. Any and all advice is appreciated.
