Powerful software with a learning curve

Still getting used to the standard DAW layout, but everyone knows that Reaper is one of the most powerful pieces of software currently available.

If you like ugly, freaky bass, you will like this. But your speakers will hate you. :)

Cyclop is a monophonic synthesizer that is geared towards one particular thing...making deep, resonant, distorted bass sounds. This is not the ONLY thing it's capable of, but this is its main focus. You have 2 voices with six different available synthesis methods (Saw Regiment, Analog Sync, FM, Transformer, Spectromat, and Phase Stressor) which can be run through 2 filters that each have 10 different modes of their own, so you can dial in the exact sound you want. AND THEN you have a wide range of modulation options for your resulting sound, including distortion, standard FX (chorus, delay, phaser, turntable brake) and step-sequencing. There is a dedicated wobble knob, which can be MIDI mapped for live tweaking or step-sequenced! (There's even a hidden VIDEOGAME in this thing.) Use the included presets as a good starting point for your own freakish creations. Just remember to watch your levels or use a limiter - your speakers will be angry enough as it is.

Renoise is the Gundam of tracker-style software.

Once I really started using PCs (former Amigaphile here), Buzz was the most accessible software to compose with.
