Bass Guitars used by Greg Edwards on Fantastic Planet

Electric Basses

Fender Precision Bass

Avg price: $1,285.37

For the making of Failure's last album, we can see here the tracking with a Fender Precision Bass American Standard.

Guitar.com, 2015

They’re very new, there’s nothing magic or special about them. They reliably do what a 60s or 70s Precision would do without that extra bit of tactile magic you get from an old bass. I would say there’s certain transference of power down the neck when you hit a low E that you feel even when you’re not plugged in. The Wal was amazing like that – you could feel the power of the open E ringing through your body. Certain older P basses have that too. I love that, it’s one thing I miss, but they do the job and when we’re all playing it’s enough. I miss the Wal, though!

Electric Basses

Wal Mk I Bass

This was Greg and Ken’s main bass throughout the recording and touring for Fantastic Planet and Greg can be seen playing it in this video

Effects Pedals used by Greg Edwards on Fantastic Planet

Delay Effects Pedals

EarthQuaker Devices Disaster Transport Sr.

Avg price: $305.98

For the latest Failure album, Greg relied heavily on Earthquaker pedals, as seen in this shot with his board.

Volume Effects Pedals

Visual Sound Visual Volume Pedal

Avg price: $75.00

Used from (assuming) 1995 until 1997. Considering Greg Edwards had a Lexicon Vortex in his 90s Failure bass rig, one can only assume he was using the volume pedal as an expression pedal to morph between A/B on his vortex for some insane sounds heard during this tour. Most notably the segue to Stuck on You during these periods where you can hear some sort of "pitch-modulated-oscillation" similar to a DJ scratch. Also sometimes seen being used during the solo section of Saturday Savior and as-well as during the intros of some Sergeant Politeness performances from 1997.

Tremolo Effects Pedals

Dunlop TS-1 Tremolo Stereo Pan

Avg price: $49.99

Taken from an excerpt of a '97 issue of Bass Player Magazine. Lists the complete equipment of gear/pedals that Greg Edwards was using during the Fantastic Planet tour. One of the pedals mentioned is the Dunlop TS-1, ASFAK this pedal was only used on Segue 1 in conjunction with the EHX Big Muff for that giant stuttering bass sound, the only other song this pedal was used was on Saturday Savior, specifically during the solo section. Best heard of the June 1st and 9th performances of the song in 1997.

Bass Guitars used by Ken Andrews on Fantastic Planet

Electric Basses

Wal Mk I Bass

In this live video (and plenty of others) Ken and Greg can be seen using this Wal bass that's been spray-painted silver. This bass was reportedly used on studio recordings as well, including at least Fantastic Planet and Magnified. Reportedly it was also loaned to Justin Chancellor for use on Ænima (TOOL's second record), which motivated him to buy a Wal of his own.

Effects Pedals used by Ken Andrews on Fantastic Planet

Wah Pedals

Dunlop 535Q Cry Baby Wah

Avg price: $168.74

As seen here on Ken Andrew’s pedalboard from his Fantastic Planet setup sometime in 1996-1997. Could have been used during the recording for Fantastic Planet and possibly Magnified.
