How to Sound Like Autolux
Autolux’s sound is characterized by hypnotic, layered guitar arrangements and driving, avant-garde drum beats. The band’s sonic character is both dreamy and dissonant, blending ethereal textures with a raw, post-punk edge. Greg Edwards often wields a Gibson SG Standard or Fender Jazzmaster, utilizing effects like the EarthQuaker Devices Rainbow Machine to create rich, otherworldly soundscapes. Carla Azar’s drumming on a Ludwig Supraphonic Snare adds a dynamic and complex rhythm section, which, combined with Eugene Goreshter’s atmospheric bass lines, forms the backbone of their sound. This intricate interplay of instruments and effects results in a sound that is both emotionally charged and sonically adventurous.
