Guitars used by Lenny Kravitz on Are You Gonna Go My Way

Solid Body Electric Guitars

Gibson Flying V

Avg price: $2,258.73

Lenny used this one for a while, this is cream white one, he used this one in Pinkpop festival in 1993. for "Are you gonna go my way" and others. This one is used frequently by Kravitz.

Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitars

Epiphone Sorrento

Avg price: $950.00

Used on "Let love rule", according to this interview for Guitar World:

"I love the guitar tone on your early albums, like Let Love Rule and Are You Gonna Go My Way. What was your setup in the studio on those records? — Grayson Malloy

On Let Love Rule, it was primarily a tweed Fender Deluxe cranked to 10. When you turn that amp all the way up, it compresses itself and makes this beautiful tone. That’s pretty much the dirty sound on the album. I think I also had a Fender Twin Reverb for the cleaner stuff.

The guitar, for the most part, was actually an Epiphone Sorrento."

Amplifiers used by Lenny Kravitz on Are You Gonna Go My Way

Combo Guitar Amplifiers

Gibson GA-5T Skylark (1965-1967)

Kravitz used a Skylark during the recording of "Are you gonna go my way", according to this Guitar World interview.

"...But on that song [“Are You Gonna Go My Way”] in particular I used a Gibson Skylark, a little tiny amp that has the most brilliant sound. And the guitar was a Les Paul—not the Flying V that’s in the video. Oddly enough, I’ve never used a V in the studio, even though I’m so associated with that guitar."

Combo Guitar Amplifiers

Line 6 Flextone Plus 2x12" Combo Amplifier

In Lenny Kravitz’ 2001 interview in the Howard Stern show, he can (surprisingly) be seen playing a Line6 Flextone amplifier. Of all the vintage gear he owns, he chose that to bring to the studio. The amp can be seen clearly throughout most of the “Let Love Rule” birthday video as well as other videos of the same session (he did other songs, see below). Best shots of the amp: 0:33’-0:37’, 1:20’-1:23’, 2:07’-2:13’ (clearly in the background of bass closeup), 3:23 (background) , 3:25’ (overview shot), 3:48’-3:52’ (pan), 4:20’-4:22’, 4:47+ (several shots). Other songs performed with same amp: https://youtu.be/MasrXmEn1Zo (Are You Gonna Go My Way), https://youtu.be/w4gFbXFEU5s (Again).
