In pre-2002 footage, Jose can be seen playing an Olympic White Fender Stratocaster Plus, modified with a "Seymour Duncan Lil' 59" pickup in the bridge position. Initially, the guitar featured a pickguard imprinted with the Weezer garage photo from the Blue Album liner notes, which was later replaced with one featuring a donkey motif. Jose can also be seen with this Stratocaster on the liner notes for "Songs of Inaudible Trucks and Cars" and "The Doubble Donkey Disc". As seen in the Eponine Warped Tour video and the Crown City Korobeiniki video, he also has a Sonic Blue Strat Plus, also equipped with a lil' 59 in the bridge position.
