He used this Marshall blended with a Mesa boogie for the superunkown tone.
Avg price: $1,599.00
This GuitarWorld article states that on Superunknown, Chris Cornell’s tone came from a blend of a Marshall JMP50 head (not the combo which was previously submitted) and a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. It is quoted from this article; “Most of Cornell’s guitar tracks were recorded using a Marshall JMP 50 half stack and Mesa-Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo half stack blended together. On Black Hole Sun, the Marshall provided brighter tone with defined string attack, while the Mesa delivered darker tone with bigger body and bottom-end girth, and both amps were set to moderate levels of overdrive.”

Avg price: $3,629.95
Chris Cornell used Neumann U87 condenser microphones for studio recording. At least it was so in the Superunknown Soundgarden album in 1994.
It was revealed that Michael Beinhorn, a producer who worked on the production of the 4th album of the band, including quirky details like the voice of Chris was so intense and powerful that he could burn 5 Neumann U87 microphones with or her own voice!

This black 1970's Fender Jazz Bass, nicknamed 'Tree', was Ben's main bass right through Soundgarden's first period. He learned to play on this instrument and recorded most of Badmotorfinger and Superunknown on it. However, this piece of history was unfortunately stolen and its whereabouts are unknown.
