Keyboards and Synthesizers used by Rod Argent on Odessey & Oracle - 40th Anniversary Concert (Live)
John Lennon's was used on Odyssey & Oracle, as mentioned in this February 2016 Sound on Sound article.
Another revelation to Rod Argent during the recording of Odessey & Oracle was that, for the first time, he managed to try out a Mellotron Mark II, which ended up being used on various tracks, not least the strident pop of the album’s opener, ‘Care Of Cell 44’.
“John Lennon had left his Mellotron in the studio and I used it,” he laughs. “I thought it was great. The thing is, I initially thought, Well what a great way of being able to put an orchestra onto something. But of course it’s very different to that and much more in a way because its own signature sound made it much less middle-of-the-road. The quality of it just being sampled on tape, the strange sort of overtones that gave to the sound, were a huge bonus really. They made it sound terrific.”
Bass Guitars used by Chris White on Odessey & Oracle - 40th Anniversary Concert (Live)
Avg price: $299.99
Chris White, renowned for his work with The Zombies, transitioned from his Gibson EB-3 to a Fender Precision Bass during the recording of "Odessey & Oracle." Visual evidence from Abbey Road Studios showcases this Fender bass, distinctively decorated with the phrases "THIS IS A PIANO" and "THIS WAY UP" by the artist who crafted the album's iconic misspelled title cover. This bass was later lent to Argent's bassist, Jim Rodford, who is also associated with The Zombies. Rodford has been documented using this bass in performances with Argent. In a nod to his musical legacy, Chris White, marking the 50th anniversary tour of "Odessey & Oracle" with The Zombies, now performs with a white Yamaha BB2004 bass guitar. This instrument inherits the unique markings "THIS IS A PIANO" and "THIS WAY UP," alongside White's signature tiger tail accessory, evidencing a blend of tradition and personal flair in his choice of gear.
