From Bobby Cedro, senior engineer at Dunlop, manufacturers of Eddie's original "Holy Grail" Cry Baby from which this pedal is directly cloned: "This wah wah is real special to me because I had the good fortune of working with Eddie in developing this wah... the interesting thing about this pedal is actually its inspiration... it had an inductor which was selected for a nice, rich, low-end sound... but when we tried to replicate it... when we measured the pot, through years of playing, Ed wore out the middle of that pot, and it gave it a whole new different response... I had that remade, got that same selected inductor, and those two things coupled in gives you the voice of Eddie Van Halen's pedal, and he loved it. He's all, "that's it"!"

The EVH95 Signature Crybaby Wah Pedal is a member of the celebrated EVH Signature Series that was developed after intensive design collaboration with the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen.

Early on in the process, Eddie handed over his "Holy Grail" Crybaby-a standard Crybaby customized in the early Nineties with a more vocal-like, High Q inductor and a wider frequency sweep. Amazingly, Dunlop found that over the years Eddie's unique wah style, which uses mostly the middle range of the effect pedal's action, had carved his own curve into the pot's resistive element, making the middle range even more defined and increased the low end sweep.

Dunlop's clones of the worn-in pot and hand-selected inductor give the EVH-95 the same "Holy Grail" feel and tone, and it's true hardwire bypass, dual bright blue bypass LEDs, and graphics based on the black and yellow-striped guitar featured on Van Halen II round out this EVH-approved Crybaby Wah Pedal with a voice and look all its own.

Guitars used by Eddie Van Halen on Van Halen II (Remastered)

Solid Body Electric Guitars

Charvel Hybrid VH2 Bumblebee

For the second album and the following tour Eddie made another guitar, similar to the first one. He asked Charvel to route a Strat-style body he had so all the electronics could be rear-loaded – eliminating the need for a pickguard. He went alone from there, painting the body yellow and doing the whole business with the masking tape to add the stripes.

As far as the electronics go, on the album cover of Van Halen II the guitar had some random pickup in the bridge, since it was barely finished for the photo session. After that, Eddie did some experimenting and ended up making a  pickup of his own. He used a DiMarzio humbucker, but replaced the magnet with the one from a Gibson PAF, and then re-wound the whole thing by hand.  He then dipped the pickup into some paraffin wax, and put the copper tape around the windings.

For the neck he used the one from Charvel with a black headstock. The back of the neck was also originally black, but Eddie sanded it down because he prefers the feel of unfinished wood. This neck was later transferred to the Frankenstein for the 1979 tour, and then used on the Snake guitar.

The guitar was buried alongside Dimebag Darrell – Pantera guitarist who died tragically in 2004.
