Almost Perfect!

The microStation is an easy-to-use sequencer/workstation that comes with enough presets and effects to create reasonable demos. My two complaints: Sequences must be saved/loaded to the SD card each time it’s powered off/on or you lose your work. I know this is standard with a lot of workstations now, but I miss the old days of sequences being saved in the onboard RAM. Bigger complaint: the microStation is a perfect portable synth … except it’s not fully portable. It’s lightweight, small, has tiny keys … but it cannot be powered by batteries or a USB brick. Korg was so close to having a massively popular product in this mini workstation (better than an M1 that you could fit in your backpack) but the lack of portable power leaves me wondering why I don’t just use my full-featured modern workstations since I’d be tethered to the grid anyway. It’s still great for hotel use, sparking a kid’s interest in keyboard workstations and adding a box to my equipboard profile, so I’m keeping it until Korg makes a portable version.

Compact and Useful

I use this regularly to sketch ideas in the field. I’ve bought several and give them as gifts. My only complaint/wish is that it had MIDI - it’s got tempo control and MIDI would make it easier to sync with my synths, drum machines, and sequencers so I wouldn’t have to work as hard lining things up later in my DAW.

This is nearly perfect!

I love the size of the Micro BR, the length of time it can run on batteries, the intuitive user interface, and the quality of the effects and built-in drum patterns. I’m still using this device in 2023 - it’s outlasted many other “away from the studio” writing/recording solutions.

The only things I don’t love: - It’s an older device so it can only use a maximum 1Gb SD card - which are increasingly difficult to find. - it would be nice to have the ability to load my own drum patterns. - any digital multitrack would be perfect if it had a MIDI out so I could sync my synths or an external drum machine.

Still, the Micro BR serves its purpose well. I use it almost daily.

Easy to use and very useful!

I LOVE the SQ64. It’s great for sequencing my “DAWless” setup, but I most often use it to loop short sequences during sound design or when I’m testing/repairing gear. It’s small, rugged, and has a very user-friendly design.
