About
13 & God is an experimental music collective born from the collaboration between American hip hop group Themselves and German indie electronica band The Notwist. The lineup features Adam "Doseone" Drucker (vocals, production), Jerry "Jel" Logan (production, sampling), and Dax Pierson from Themselves, alongside Markus Acher (vocals, guitar), Micha Acher (bass, keyboards), Martin Gretschmann (electronics), and Martin Messerschmid (drums) from The Notwist. The group combines elements of electronic, hip hop, trip hop, and alternative hip hop, creating a unique sound that defies traditional genre boundaries. Their music is characterized by its rich textures, introspective lyrics, and innovative production techniques.
How to Sound Like 13 & God
The sound of 13 & God is a compelling fusion of atmospheric electronica and cerebral hip hop, characterized by its layered, textured soundscapes and intricate rhythms. The group's music often features ambient and glitchy electronic elements, blending seamlessly with organic instrumentation to create a sound that's both ethereal and grounded. Equipment like the Akai MPC 2000XL and Roland SP-404 are integral to their production, providing the rhythmic backbone and sample manipulation that define their tracks. The use of the Boss SP-303 Dr. Sample adds further depth, allowing for the creation of dense, atmospheric layers that give their music a haunting yet captivating quality. This combination of electronic and acoustic elements results in a sound that's both innovative and evocative, appealing to listeners who appreciate complexity and emotional depth.
